The Ravens 2013 schedule (see below) has been released and based upon the 2012 records of their opponents (137-119, .535), the Ravens face the NFL’s fifth-toughest schedule.

Traditionally the Super Bowl Champion hosts the season opener but due to apparently unresolvable scheduling conflicts with the Orioles and a greedy commissioner unwilling to move the game to Wednesday night instead of Thursday night (a more profitable one vis-à-vis higher TV ratings) the Ravens open the season in Denver on September 5.

For the second time in three years the Ravens will host a Thanksgiving game, this one against their arch-rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 28 at 8:30 presumably on NFL Network.

Some other initial schedule observations…

  • A surprisingly low number of prime time games for a champion (4)
  • The bye week is favorably set during Week 8
  • Four of the last 6 games are at home
  • Six (6) 1:00 starts at home
  • Three straight games at home between 11/28 and 12/8
  • Six week stretch 9/29 – 11/3 during which there is only 1 home game (Packers 10/13)
