Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jameel McClain continues to shine even after the lights at M&T Bank Stadium are turned off for the season.
On Saturday June 28th McClain received a prestigious honor from the Baltimore City Branch of the NAACP for his tireless efforts helping kids in the community and battling hunger throughout Baltimore.
“This is one of the biggest honors I have ever accomplished.”  replied McClain when asked about the special award presented to him.
“To get acknowledged by this distinguished group and to see that they recognize some of the things that myself and Team McClain along with Julie Bates, Cedric Lowe and all of those guys for what we are doing in the community.” he also added.
I have had the opportunity to cover the Ravens undrafted free agent for the past two years and have never met a player so involved with the community. Whether it is Easter egg hunts for the kids, coat giveaways, football camps or his work through the Baltimore area Salvation Army, McClain is always giving back.
“Who am I not to give back? Who am I not to give unto the earth so somebody else can grow. My only purpose is to leave a legacy with someone else so they can be better than I ever dreamed to be.” McClain stated as his sole passion for continuing to help make peoples lives better.
The president of the Baltimore Chapter of the NAACP Tessa Hill-Aston praised McClain for all of his energy in the community during the award presentation.
“Jameel McClain is an excellent role model to young people and to all of us because he strives for excellence in his chosen profession and is dedicated to giving back to the community through his philanthropic work.”
McClain who is entering his sixth year with the Ravens suffered a spinal cord contusion against the Redskins last season and is working hard to get back on the field.
“The rehab is going well. I am working hard doing all the good things, throwing up 315lbs in the weight room. We still have to go back to the doctors and see how that goes. On my end though I am ready right now.” remarked Jameel.
Baltimore is lucky to have a guy like Jameel McClain who strives to make life better for those who are less fortunate. From his childhood days growing up in Philadelphia to Super Bowl Champ in Baltimore, McClain won’t ever stop his community involvement.
