D-Day for Vonta?

There has been a lot of talk about Vonta Leach returning to the Baltimore Ravens and only two other teams besides the Ravens are making noise about acquiring the services of the planet’s best fullback (NY Giants, Miami Dolphins).

But apparently neither offer has impressed Leach and/or his agent.

Word is that the Giants have offered the league minimum to the former undrafted free agent who made his NFL debut in Green Bay. Leach is heading into his 10th season so that minimum equates to a salary of $940,000.

The Miami Dolphins according to several sources have not extended an offer to Leach. The only other team linked to the 3-Time All Pro is his former employer, the Houston Texans but there, Gary Kubiak & Company acquired 9-year vet FB Greg Jones who spent his entire career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It is believed that Ozzie Newsome has a deal that includes a $2M base with incentives on the table. But given the at-best lukewarm interest in Leach, one has to wonder if that offer still stands.

“With Vonta, you are talking about a smash-mouth point of attack blocker who has played at a Pro Bowl level for years”, said Assistant GM Eric DeCosta. “Both [Leach and Kyle Juszczyk] have the potential to help us and it would be great to have them both.”

Vonta better do his best Jack Antwerpen impersonation soon and say, “YES!”
