Welcome Back Brandon Stokley

As practice began on Monday afternoon, an old but familiar face once again stood on the field. Donning a No. 80 jersey that he once wore as a member of the Ravens Super Bowl XXXV team, Brandon Stokley stood next to two of the newer faces of the franchise, wide receiver Torrey Smith and cornerback Lardarius Webb.

Stokley saw plenty of action in his first day of practice and wasn’t necessarily assigned to one specific offensive team, practicing in formations with receivers with the likes of Smith and against Webb.

On his first play, Stokley was targeted for a 25+ yard touchdown pass in the front corner of the end zone, beating cornerback Corey Graham. In-between other offensive units working, Stokley was standing next to wide receivers coach Jim Hostler and appeared to be reviewing routes based off their hand signals.

Stokley’s hands looked superb as his only blunder on the day came from a natural miscommunication with quarterback Joe Flacco where Stokley appeared to undercut a route, causing Webb to intercept Flacco’s pass.

No Sign Of Dallas Clark…. Yet

Dallas Clark was likely in the building, but he wasn’t seen out on the practice field today. Clark flew into town on Sunday evening, and was expected to take his physical and run his conditioning test after agreeing to a deal in principle with the Ravens a day prior. At the time of practice, no official moves had been made for either Clark’s signing or the corresponding move to clear a roster spot.

By process of elimination, many signs would point to tight end Alex Silvestro as a casualty once Clark inks his deal. This is purely speculation at this point.

Marshal Yanda and Bernard Pierce Return

Besides Stokley a few other welcomed sights took the field this afternoon. Pro Bowl right guard Marshal Yanda joined his teammates for his first practice since training camp. Yanda underwent offseason shoulder surgery and missed most of the Ravens offseason programs, at least the practice portions. He was a limited participant and it’s unlikely he’ll see the field this week against the Atlanta Falcons.

After spraining his knee in Thursday’s preseason opener, running back Bernard Pierce returned to practice. He was limited in participation and likely could be held out until after this Thursday’s preseason opener.

Caught In The Webb

Cornerback Lardarius Webb is still recovering from surgery to repair his ACL, but his knee hasn’t stopped him from demonstrating his speed or having a knack for finding the football.

During practice today, Webb intercepted passes within five minutes of each other, returning them for what would have likely been touchdowns had the teams played at regular speed and not two-hand touch in shells. Webb was in the right place at the right time after wide receiver Jacoby Jones was targeted for a pass and smacked the ball with his hand as it was under-thrown, Webb caught the deflection and took off.

Webb also intercepted the Flacco pass mentioned above when Stokley undercut his route.

Tucker Continues To Be Consistent

It has been a quiet training camp for kicker Justin Tucker, and that’s because he has no competition this year. By himself, Tucker has been impressive, booting field goals from distances up to 68 yards. Tucker is worth mentioning because of his consistency, booting all six of his attempts today through the uprights.

Distances: 19 (twice), 28, 32, 37 and 42 yards.

Mixed Bag Of Results For Tandon Doss

With Stokley in the mix, wide receiver Tandon Doss may see a decrease in the playing time he anticipated during the regular season. As it often does with many of these players, competition brings the best out of them and Doss appeared to have one of his better days in camp.

Doss was targeted plenty of times, not appearing to have many issues catching the ball today. Doss’ worst play came after making a catch over the middle and he was subsequently stripped by cornerback Corey Graham.

Doss responded when Flacco came back to him on the very next play and completed a 35+ yard pass to him over the middle. It’ll be interesting to see how Doss responds on Thursday night to the addition of Stokley.
