FANTASY BLITZ: Guru Eisenberg Nipping at Fabiano’s Heels

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Every fantasy football player in the country looks for the competitive edge to beat their opponent. Each game means bragging rights and sometimes winning or losing a friendly bet. (Well, friendly might not always describe it, but you get the point.)

When we look for these tips for our team, we often turn to the few people that get paid to research and dedicate their work to fantasy football. This year, I am on the quest to find the most accurate and reliable fantasy football “guru”.

I will spotlight on the four websites that own the fantasy football world and in the end, crown the best guru in the last edition of “Fantasy Guru Rankings”.

The four gurus: Michael Fabiano of NFL.com, Jamey Eisenberg of CBS Sports, Matthew Berry of ESPN, and Brad Evans of Yahoo! Sports.

Last week was pretty brutal for our gurus, so I’m happy to say that this week was a huge rebound week… for some.

Our leader Michael Fabiano is slipping and sliding down to a dangerous spot, giving Jamey Eisenberg an opportunity to make a run at becoming our most reliable fantasy football guru.

Here’s how our standings look after Week 10 of the NFL season:

Michael Fabiano, NFL.com—@Michael_Fabiano

After putting together 60% or better performances multiple weeks in a row, Fabiano has struggled lately. This week he was dangerously close to the 50-percent mark, and he was beat by 14.0% by the 2nd place Eisenberg.

Fabiano could have padded his lead a bit if it weren’t for the D/ST category (the category that has been critical to get correct). He misfired on three of his six picks, a microcosm of his overall week that was very average.

He didn’t make any out-of-the-box picks, letting Eisenberg close to within 7% for the year. It might be time for a signature “Fabiano domination week” in Week 11.

Jamey Eisenberg, CBS Sports—@JameyEisenberg

Last week was one of the worst performances that Eisenberg has had, so a 69.2% week was exactly what the doctor ordered for the CBS Sports guru.

Sheer dominance was what his wide receiver group looked like. Not only did he get all but two of those picks correct, but he had the guts to put Riley Cooper in the start category. Cooper covered over 100 yards and scored twice.

During this study, I’ve learned that if a guru guesses at least two of his quarterback “start” picks correct, he’s going to have an edge. This week, Eisenberg had Nick Foles and Russell Wilson on that list—moves that paid off big time!

Matthew Berry, ESPN—@MatthewBerryTMR

Going with the theme, Matthew Berry had a great week after a berry bad week. (See what I did there? Yeah, sorry… I’ll stop.)

Berry went 22-for-33, including going 4-for-4 on his running back “sit” column. He accurately projected bad weeks by Trent Richardson, Ray Rice, and Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis.

He also did what Fabiano couldn’t do: secure all of his D/ST picks including the Titans, Cardinals, Bears, and Packers. Berry also told us to start T.Y Hilton, who had 130 yards despite the Colts’ 38-8 loss at the hands of the St. Louis Rams.

(Off-Topic Note: Are the Colts in trouble? 38-8 against Kellen Clemens and the RAMS?? They face a short week game against the Titans in Tennessee this week. Could they fall to 6-4 with the Bengals, Chiefs, and Texans still on the schedule?)

Brad Evans, Yahoo! Sports – @YahooNoise

Note: As always, Evans only makes 10 picks in his “flames/lames” feature—so the object of tracking Evans is to see how correct he really is with these risky picks.

Evans had a nice week this week, rounding out our guru domination. Here’s how his week unfolded:
