Winning picks for Week 11
Quarterback
Mike Glennon—Buccaneers vs. Falcons
Glennon has thrown for a score in each of the six games he has started and has thrown for multiple touchdowns in three of those. He has a 9-to-4 touchdown pass to interception ratio and faces the Falcons, a team that allowed Glennon to complete 26 of 44 passes for 250 yards and throw two touchdowns in Week 7. Based on Glennon’s play recently, he warrants a fantasy start— but add to that the fact that the Falcons have allowed eight multiple touchdown pass games this year—and it amounts to a more than favorable match up for the rookie.
Alex Smith— Chiefs at Broncos
Smith has not been a viable fantasy start recently. After throwing for a touchdown in three of his first four games, he has not thrown a touchdown in four of his last five. Even though the Chiefs are undefeated, Smith has provided little fantasy value. The Broncos do have a way of bringing out the best in every quarterback they face however. They are ranked 30th against the pass, and have given up 16 scoring throws. They are better than their stats show but to be truthful: everyone has to throw to keep up with Peyton Manning… That brings weekly fantasy value.
Running Back
Ray Rice— Ravens at Bears
The name of the article is Under the Radar, so with Rice being a first-round selection in most fantasy drafts, you have to be having a really bad year to make it here. He’s averaging just 2.5 yards per carry. Former Bears defensive tackle and short-yardage legend Refrigerator Perry had a better YPC average! (Okay, not really— he averaged 0.5 a carry— but you had wonder for a second….) The Bears are terrible against the run, allowing five rushing scores in their last two games. They are ranked 29th against the run, giving up 129.4 yards a game. Based on statistics, this is Rice’s most favorable match-up of the year. To top it all off, Rice has averaged four receptions per game his last four. Rice will score some fantasy points Sunday. If you benched him, bring him back for this contest.
Wide Receiver
Tiquan Underwood— Buccaneers vs. Falcons
The Falcons are ranked 23rd against the pass, allowing more than 250 yards per game in the air. Underwood is now the second receiver behind Vincent Jackson for the Buccaneers. The match up is favorable because Underwood is going to see a lot of single coverage with Jackson being double-teamed. The Falcons have allowed Doug Baldwin 76 receiving yards, Brandon LaFell 74 yards, and Michael Floyd a touchdown, all in the last three weeks. All three of those guys are second on their respective depth charts. Look for a great week.
Jermaine Kearse— Seahawks vs. Vikings
The Seahawks spread the ball around in their passing game and there really is no one “go-to” receiver. In the last two games, Kearse has five receptions for 118 yards and 2 scores. The Vikings are 29th against the pass and have given up 21 touchdown passes, a league-high. Since they have allowed a multiple TD pass game in four of their last five contests, stick Kearse in your lineup if you’re looking for a true under-the-radar player.
Tight End
Jordan Cameron— Browns at Bengals
The only reason Cameron is here is because he is a Brown. On any other team, Cameron would be a must-start every week. Since Brian Sipe has retired, there is virtually no respect for any fantasy players in the Browns passing game. The Bengals are tough against the pass, but this is a favorable match-up for Cameron. He caught 10 passes for 91 yards and a score in Week 4 against the Bengals, and Cincinnati has allowed five touchdowns to Tight Ends this year. With Jason Campbell behind center instead of Brandon Weeden, their passing game is better.
