Marshall Has Mad Respect For Webb

Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been known to take digs at the opposition.

A few days ago, Marshall angered the Lions, referring to them as the Bears’ “little brother,” and making reference to Detroit’s financial problems. However, Marshall was on good behavior during a Wednesday conference call, talking about Sunday’s upcoming game against the Ravens. One player in particular has impressed Marshall – Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb.

“My last year in Denver, I remember traveling to Baltimore and he really dominated me,” Marshall said. “I wasn’t prepared. Right before he got hurt, he probably was a top five cornerback in the league, maybe even playing right behind Darrelle Revis, pushing Revis for the best corner. Now I think you’re starting to see him get back to that form and he’s playing lights out. This guy has the potential of being the best corner in the league.”

The matchup between Marshall and Webb will be one of Sunday’s highlights. At 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Marshall can be physically imposing, difficult to cover, and tough to bring down once he makes the catch. With 60 catches for 786 yards, Marshall is well on his way to seventh consecutive 1000-yard season.

Meanwhile, Webb had his best game Sunday against the Bengals, which included an interception and several key pass breakups. It was clear Webb has gained Marshall’s respect. And Marshall also had kind words for Ravens’ cornerback Jimmy Smith.

“The young guy from Colorado (Smith), he’s playing really good,” Marshall said. “He’s trying to take away all the deep stuff. It’s going to be tough. “My game, it varies from week to week. Sometimes my approach is finesse, sometimes my approach is trying to be more physical, But with Webb, I know he’s a smaller guy, but he’s one of the stronger corners in the league. He does a great job of really fighting and getting physical with big receivers so I have my work cut out for me.”
