The Ravens will do something Sunday that they rarely do in December- root for the Patriots. That might be hard for Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs to do, considering his dislike for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. However, rooting for the Patriots on Sunday when they visit the Dolphins will be in the Ravens’ best interests.
The Ravens (7-6) still control their playoff destiny, but the Dolphins (7-6) and Chargers (7-7) are close on their heels.
If Miami loses to the Patriots, it would put the Ravens closer to making the playoffs. The Ravens already own the tiebreaker over Miami because they defeated the Dolphins in October. Baltimore also owns the tiebreaker over the Chargers, because San Diego already has six conference losses.
Right now, the Ravens have to worry about making the playoffs, not their rivalry with the Patriots. Baltimore has faced the Patriots in the last two AFC championship games, and the Ravens will have their chance to beat the Patriots in Week 16 at M & T Bank Stadium.
Who knows? If the Ravens make the playoffs, they may see the Patriots in the postseason as well.
If the Patriots win Sunday, wonder if Suggs will send Brady a thank you text?
Don’t count on it.
