OK, Ravens fans, to think that seven years ago your quarterback of the future was almost … Brady Quinn?

Four years after taking Kyle Boller in the first round of the draft, the Ravens apparently came extremely close to drafting Quinn in the first round.

On NFL Network on Monday night, former Ravens scout Daniel Jeremiah and Quinn recounted how close Quinn came to being the Ravens’ first-round draft pick in 2007.

The Ravens were set to pick at No. 29 that season, and they, and millions others watching on television, saw Quinn squirming uncomfortably in the NFL Draft green room as one player after another whose name was not Quinn was selected.

With Quinn still on the board into the 20s, the Ravens apparently quickly began targeting the former Notre Dame quarterback.

Meanwhile, Cleveland was working the phones to move up to the no. 22 pick. But Quinn didn’t know that at the time, because he was on the phone with Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome.

“Here’s something that a lot of people don’t know,” Brady told Jeremiah. “During that (No. 22) pick, I was on the phone with the Baltimore Ravens the entire time.” Quinn said he was talking to Newsome, then-coach Brian Billick and then-offensive coordinator Rick Neuheisel in a kind of impromptu job interview.”
