On Thursday afternoon, NFL Network’s Mike Mayock took time for a media conference call to talk about everything related to the NFL Draft.

Below, you’ll find some notable bullet-points from Mayock’s chat, including what he thinks the Ravens will do with the 17th pick.

RELATED TO THE SELECTION AT 17

  • The Ravens are one of the best drafting teams in the NFL. Eric DeCosta and Ozzie Newsome received a lot of credit. He feels that trading back is a big option.

  • Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will probably be gone at 17.

  • He noted that there could be a player like WR Brandin Cooks from Oregon State sitting there, someone who could interest Newsome and the staff.

  • “They understand late value and they are looking for clusters,” Mayock said. He feels that if there are three or four players they want, they can and will move back.

  • He noted that the Eagles are a potential suitor for a move, noting a safety could be of interest for Philadelphia.

  • On OT Zack Martin: “If you want him, you better get him early.” Also: “I think he is coming off the board between 9-13.”

  • If the Ravens trade back, he mentioned Alabama LB C.J. Mosley multiple times as a potential option.

  • “The odds of them trading back are typically pretty high,” he said.

RELATED TO WIDE RECEIVERS

  • Mayock thinks six receivers could easily be taken in the first round.

  • He noted O’Dell Beckham Jr. from LSU and Brandin Cooks as potential options in the mid-late first round.

  • Kelvin Benjamin and Marquise Lee are still rated by Mayock as first-rounders.

  • Allen Robinson and Paul Richardson are players that Mayock thinks will be taken around the third round, a bit lower than most projections.

  • He talked about WR DaVante Adams as a guy who could sneak into the first round late. (NOTE: This would be an option for the Ravens if they move back with San Francisco, like many have rumored, including Mayock.”

  • On South Carolina WR Martavis Bryant, “Boy, is he gifted.”

  • On Saginaw Valley WR Jeff Janis, “He is special because he has height, weight, and speed.”

  • Mayock thinks Cody Latimer from Indiana is a sleeper in the second round.

RELATED TO NORTH CAROLINA TE ERIC EBRON

“Ebron is going to go somewhere between 7-13,” Mayock said. He believes that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could certainly take him as early as 7. It’s clear that Mayock doesn’t think he’ll fall to the Ravens.

RELATED TO RUNNING BACKS

  • Mayock thinks that this season, there are guys with first-round talent that will fall into the second-third rounds due to the way the league is trending on offense.

  • He likes Jeremy Hill from LSU and Carlos Hyde from Ohio State, naming them as two of his top prospects at the position.

  • On Charles Sims from West Virginia: “He is a solid fourth round guy that provides versatility,” said Mayock, adding that his size and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield are very impressive.

RELATED TO POTENTIAL RAVENS TARGETS LATER IN THE DRAFT

  • Mayock feels Virginia Tech DB Antone Exum is a player that could provide value later in the draft.

  • He noted that the Eagles could be possible suitors for S Calvin Pryor from Louisville. He also mentioned Jimmie Ward from NIU as a guy that can “play both spots”.

  • Alabama OT Cyrus Kouandjio, a guy that many thought the Ravens could grab with their second round pick, will probably be taken late in the first according to Mayock.

  • Mayock doesn’t think DT Aaron Donald from Pittsburgh will go as high as many think. In fact, he talked like he thought Donald could be available when the Ravens pick at 17.

  • Devin Street is a player that in the 5th round, would be a good pick with a lot of upside according to Mayock.

  • He said that he really liked guard Trai Turner from LSU as an early day-three selection.

  • Mayock has Florida State DM LaMarcus Joyner in his safety groupings.

  • “This is a bad tight end class,” Mayock said.

  • He feels that Notre Dame TE Troy Niklas could become the NFL’s best blocking tight end in a few years.

  • Despite his off-field issues and falling stock, Mayock talked about Miami OT Seantrel Henderson as having “first round talent”.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

On WRs Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans: “They are like vanilla and chocolate. They make different flavors for different reasons.”
