Zuttah Scares Team and Flacco Tosses 2 TDs

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Ravens offense struggled at times on their first day back to practice after a much needed players’ day off on Tuesday.

Quarterback Joe Flacco was inconsistent at times in getting the ball out of his hands quickly, and also threw behind his receivers on several occasions. After one such throw to Steve Smith, Flacco could be heard yelling at himself loudly.

However, Flacco did bounce back during the two minute drill portion of the practice nicely. Flacco capped off a long touchdown drive connecting with wide receiver Torrey Smith who beat cornerback Chykie Brown with ease. Flacco went 5-of-6 for 75 yards and one touchdown during the two minute drill.

Third string quarterback Keith Wenning struggled throughout practice on Wednesday. The rookie quarterback missed wide open receivers on multiple occasions. Thus far, his arm strength certainly doesn’t look to be as good as the Ravens thought it would when they drafted him in May.

Other Notes & Observations

Wide receiver Kamar Aiken had a solid practice today building on his performance during the Ravens open practice at M&T Bank Stadium on Monday. The journeyman wideout beat cornerback Jimmy Smith twice during corner drills for touchdowns. The battle for the few wide receivers spots on the roster is heating up with Jeremy Butler, Jace Davis and Aiken all performing well.

Marlon Brown had the play of the day when he made a spectacular one handed touchdown grab on a long pass from Joe Flacco.

New Ravens center Jeremy Zuttah provided a scare when he went down midway through practice. Zuttah returned on the next offensive series.

Rookie tight end Crockett Gilmore got in his first mix-up of training camp when he and linebacker Austin Spitler exchanged punches after the whistle. Both players were quickly separated and were later seen shaking hands. Gillmore, 6-6, 251 pounds was involved in a few heated moments during OTA’s and minicamp.

Special Teams

Kicker Justin Tucker turned in another nice day of camp. Tucker made 3 of 4  field goals including a booming 64-yarder during the two-minute drill.

Rookie Michael Campanaro was solid during punt returns fielding the ball cleanly and showing his speed upfield. Besides his big contribution on offense, Marlon Brown shined on the punt team as well for the second straight practice beating Chykie Brown and Dominique Franks to down the ball at the 4 yard line.

Quote of the Day

“Way to go return team. We kicked their butts.” Special Team Coordinator Jerry Rosburg.
