With the negative spotlight being on the Ravens over recent weeks (rightly so, unfortunately), it’s nice to finally see some positive news regarding one of Baltimore’s players.

On Thursday, The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty (“the Law Center”) will honor wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. with the Stewart B. McKinney Award for his commitment to advancing solutions that prevent and end homelessness.

The Ravens’ newly-signed wideout, along with his wife, Angie, established the Steve Smith Family Foundation which champions the cause of the voiceless and fearful, envisioning an end to domestic violence and a better quality of life for all.

Smith Sr., through his foundation, is dedicated to providing resources and hope to those in need.

Throughout his entire 14-year NFL career, Smith Sr. has shown both leadership and commitment to homeless, poor, and disadvantaged communities and individuals in America.

While Smith Sr. brings with him a fiery work ethic to the football field, he also brings that same compassion where it’s needed the most, off the football field to those in need.

The 16th Annual McKinney-Vento Awards will be held on Tuesday, September 30, from 6 – 9 p.m., at The Liaison Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
