On the bright side, the Ravens are sporting a 2-1 record entering Week 4. However, when it rains it pours, and it’s doing just that right now when it comes to the team’s offense and injuries.
The O took another hit on Wednesday, as the Ravens announced that left tackle Eugene Monroe would miss some time after suffering a knee injury during the Week 3 win over the Browns that required minor surgery.
It’s unknown at this time just how long Monroe will miss but it appears as if undrafted rookie James Hurst will get his shot for now. His first test is against a stout Carolina Panthers defense on Sunday.
Hurst, signed with the Ravens as a rookie free agent earlier this offseason after serving as a four-year starter along the North Carolina Tar Heels’ offensive line, earned the starting left tackle job in the second game of his true freshman season in 2010. Thought by many draft experts to be a late-round pick if not for the broken leg he suffered during his senior year, Hurst had an up-and-down training camp and performed rather well throughout the preseason.
Another option the Ravens have would be to plug current left guard Kelechi Osemele into Monroe’s slot if they find Hurst struggling to handle the position throughout the week, but for now it appears as if it’s Hurst’s opportunity.
With the match-up against the Panthers just three days away, here’s hoping that the Ravens are working hard behind to scenes to make sure Flacco’s blind side is well protected.
