Return to Ravens Not in Cards For Ryan

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The bye week seems so long.

Some of you might be catching up on chores around your home or taking one for “the team” and joining your significant other on a trip to the shopping outlets. Maybe you are just caving in and succumbing to an inevitable event with the mister or missus and this is as good as any time to get it over with and restore your “points bank.”

Do share your bye week plans in the comments section below…

Me, I chose to launch a new Russell Street Report so that we can work out the expected and unexpected kinks before we collectively begin to prepare for the New Orleans Saints.

Oh, and I’m heading to Key West with some college buddies to check in on Jah Reid. Hopefully there are no mugshots in my immediate future.

CJ Mosley is having a fine rookie campaign. Pro Football Focus grades Mosley as the No. 1 overall inside linebacker with a mark of 13.0, just ahead of the 2013 NFC Defensive Player of the Year Luke Kuechly who grades out at a 12.3.

Comparatively speaking former Raven and current member of the G-Men, Jameel McClain, is the 37th ranked ILB out of a field of 59 with a grade of -3.2. D’Qwell Jackson, a 2014 free agent who some pegged as a possible fit for the Ravens, grades out at -11.0, good for 55th of the 59 ILB’s.

Many on draft day questioned the Ravens selection of Mosley with the 17th overall pick citing injury concerns and other more apparent needs. One of those needs (and it seems this way every draft) was the position of wide receiver. Here’s a look at the receivers the Ravens passed on who were selected after Mosley through Round 2.

*NOTE: Torrey Smith was the 58th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft

Dean Pees has been the subject of much criticism this season and really what it boils down to is his aggressiveness, or lack thereof. Baltimore is accustomed to outstanding defense – check that, make it spoiled by outstanding defense. Our collective DNA is characterized by the chromosome “Organized Chaos”. We embrace a menacing defense that strikes fear in the hearts of opposing quarterbacks and creates turnovers.

That hardly describes Dean Pees and it is the reason fans have their eyes set on the Meadowlands and the future of Rex Ryan.

Many expect Ryan to be fired at the end of the season and the overwhelming majority of Ravens fans would welcome his return to Baltimore as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Two words folks – AIN’T HAPPENIN’!

Ryan loves the spotlight. If fired he’ll campaign for an opening elsewhere and likely view a DC job as just a pit stop.

Towards the end of his tenure in Baltimore he was a bit divisive and didn’t do much to diffuse the decaying relationship between offense and defense during the Billick years. He rallied his guys in a mutiny-like way to gain support as a leading candidate to replace Brian Billick as the Ravens head coach. During the interview process Ryan parked his truck in the parking spot marked HC (“Head Coach”).

The Ravens questioned Ryan’s level of maturity then and they’d likely do so now.

It would seem very out of character for John Harbaugh to make such a hire.

PARTING SHOTS: Did anyone watch the Bills @ Dolphins last night? If so, would you like to sign my Thank You card for Joe Flacco? Imagine if we all had to root for Kyle Orton as our team’s quarterback…Have you seen the new speed dating craze, Love is Blind. Participants converse with potential hook-ups with bags over their heads, an obvious attempt to get the interested singles to focus on charm and personality. Hopefully they save a few bags for their future kids. Word is the inspiration behind the craze was sparked by a visit to Heinz Field…RIMSHOT…Lastly, the Internet buzz is all about Kim Kardashian’s hind parts. Girl’s got nothing on Arthur Jones, circa 2010.

So what will you do during bye week Sunday?
