Linebacker C.J. Mosley hasn’t completed his first official season in the NFL yet, but he has done something no other Ravens rookie has ever done.
When the league announced their 2014 Pro Bowl roster on Tuesday night, Mosley was among one of three Ravens selected (Elvis Dumervil, Marshal Yanda) making him first Raven to ever be selected in his rookie year.
“First of all, I thank God for the position I am in,” Mosley stated. “I also give many thanks to the Ravens organization, especially Mr. Ozzie Newsome and Mr. [Steve] Bisciotti for trusting me and bringing me here to play for such a great team.
“I wouldn’t be in this position without [inside linebackers] coach “Wink” [Don Martindale], Daryl [Smith], Albert [McClellan] and Arthur [Brown], who have all taken me under their wing and helped me get where I am. With Daryl specifically, it’s meant so much having a person and player of his caliber next to me throughout my first NFL season.
“Also, a huge ‘thank you’ goes out to Ravens Nation for welcoming me. I am honored and humbled.”
Mosley has been everything the Ravens hoped for when they selected him with 17th overall pick in the draft in May. The former Alabama standout is the NFL’s only player to post at least 115 tackles, three sacks and two INTs this season. Mosley’s 122 tackles rank first among NFL rookies.
For Mosley, earning Pro Bowl honors is just the icing on the cake as far as accolades he’s received in his rookie year for the purple and black.
Mosley was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month after totaling 40 tackles (26 solo), two INTs and four QB hits in October.
Not only did Ravens Nation get a glimpse of Mosley’s passion for the game of football in just his first season but, the rest of the NFL has quickly become aware as well.
Here’s hoping this is the first of many Pro Bowl honors for Mosley in the years to come.
