It’s no secret that the Ravens love players who have been released by their former teams, since it means that they won’t need to give up a compensatory pick in the next season to sign him. With that, I give you a special version of Ravens links where we look at some players who have been released from their former teams recently and consider the chances of the Ravens signing them.
A non-flashy potential free agency target for the Ravens: Dolphins Wide Receiver, Brian Hartline has been released after having one of the least productive receiving campaigns of the 2014 season where rookie Jarvis Landry took away many of his targets. Ben Stockwell of Pro Football Focus looks at the potential for him to return to his 2012-2013 form when he ranked inside the top 30 for receiving grades.
Bisciotti: We need to win the AFC North more often
We move away from guys who have been released to read CSN Baltimore writer, Bo Smolka’s examination of Bisciotti’s comments about the Ravens not winning the division enough. That’s probably the only blemish on the Harbaugh and Flacco years, and it’s not a very big one. LINK
Falcons long time No. 3 WR Harry Douglas let go
Nathan Jahnke of Pro Football Focus digs into Harry Douglas’ production while he was in Atlanta and determines that he could fill a need as the #2 WR on a team that’s desperate for receivers. He could possibly be a good value guy for the Ravens if for no other reason than to compete with the younger guys (Aiken, Campanaro, Brown) for the spot behind Steve Smith. LINK
Re-Examining Wide Receiver Size and Production
Shying away from our release motif, Brandon Gdula of numberFire examines the importance of size when it comes to wide receivers. We know that guys like Antonio Brown and Randall Cobb are good, but are bigger and taller receivers more productive than shorter ones as a whole? LINK
Raiders Tyvon Branch to be cut
According to Rick Drummond of Pro Football Focus, Tyvon Branch may be looking for work soon. Once ranked as the 11th overall safety in the league by PFF in 2011, Tyvon just has not seen the field enough. If he could stay healthy, he may add some value to the Ravens with a low-risk contract. LINK
Jacksonville Jaguars release CB Will Blackmon
According to Marc Sessler of NFL.com, the Jacksonville Jaguars have released the nine-year veteran. Blackmon could be a decent veteran, cheap pick-up for the Ravens who could compete for a spot in the team’s weak secondary. Don’t get too excited about him, though. He accumulated a grade of -6.9 via Pro Football Focus, which isn’t very good. LINK
