Like many of you I was a fan of the HBO series The Sopranos and earlier today I thought of a typical scene from the series.
There’s Tony Soprano sitting at the end of the table, cigar in hand, dealing with a business problem. He turns to consigliore Silvio Dante and says, “Make this go away.”
We all knew what that meant.
I’m wondering if a similar conversation took place between Roger Goodell and Robert Kraft as it relates to “Deflate Gate.”
Deflate Gate has deflated.
I have to admit that after the Patriots won Super Bowl 49, I thought the Deflate Gate discussions would reach epic proportions. Instead they’ve seemingly been in mute.
When you stop and think about it, it makes sense. Why not let it die? Why risk an even bigger dent to the league’s declining level of integrity?
Why risk the dollars?
No news is good news and ignoring Deflate Gate might influence the media to unleash their inner “Frozen” and let it go.
And they might. And so too, will you.
Sure, you’ll call them the Cheatriots and in your eyes their legacy will forever be tainted. And maybe that will affect how you view the NFL as well.
But don’t expect any change. The NFL will continue to be smug and condescending as long as Roger Goodell is commissioner. That’s just who he is and until the league’s ultimate bosses – the fans, rally to send a message by spending fewer dollars on the NFL, it will be business as usual.
BADA BING!
