The Patriots Beef is Legit

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Unless you live in New England you view the Patriots from a tainted vantage point. The word “cheaters” quickly comes to mind. First there was SpyGate, then along came DeflateGate and there are those ticky-tacky calls that Tom Brady regularly seems to get that Joe Flacco could only dream of.

And then of course there’s this controversy over the illegal substitutions. Well they’re illegal now but they weren’t when the Patriots hosted the Ravens in the Divisional round this past season.

Give the Patriots credit for understanding the rules and using them to their “legal” advantage. It’s much like a crafty accountant who can uncover tax loopholes to lower a company’s taxable income.

But that said, the Patriots, led by their pretentious owner with a super-sized ego and sense of entitlement, collectively come off as a bunch of petulant toddlers.

And that’s probably why Bill Belichick’s championed idea of four cameras in each corner of the end zones was shot down – the league claims it’s too expensive. Maybe the league feels they’ve already done enough to pacify the DeflateGaters.

But Belichick is right!

He’s right that the NFL can spend a boatload to expand its brand abroad yet they can’t spend a little more to improve the game.

In retrospect, Belichick should have huddled with a coach like Green Bay’s Mike McCarthy or old school and well-respected owners like the Rooney family and have them present the concept.

If he had, maybe this worthy idea could have been advanced.

Instead, it will have to wait a year and rest assured Coach Belichick. It will get passed then…you know, when old Roger no longer thinks he’s enabling the spoiled brats we all call The Patriots.
