True to form in my draft predictions, the recent run of cornerbacks taken will have the Ravens looking elsewhere at 26. Still some quality wide receivers on the board and some play making edge rushers, perhaps a sneaky tight end pick. ~Brian Bower
Well one thing is certain, the Ravens will not be selecting a running back in the first round. While the Chiefs may have gotten a playmaker in Marcus Peters they may have saved the Ravens a potential headache.
There will be quality players who can fill an immediate need when the Ravens are on the clock. It would be surprising if they traded back. ~Ryan Jones
First, my hope for the long shot of DeVante Parker was over. Then, my hope for a Campanaro-Johnson reunion was crushed. Even after that, I was still okay since Marcus Peters was still on the board. Now, I’m hoping that the Ravens pick one of the three big pass rushers: Bud Dupree, Randy Gregory, or Shane Ray. I’m very anxious and excited to see how these next five picks fall. The wild card pick would be Landon Collins, who was quietly fallen outside of the top 20. ~Tyler Lombardi
What kind of alternate universe are we in? The Browns made two very solid selections between Danny Shelton and Cam Erving. I’m a bit surprised they passed on Breshad Perriman, but he’s someone that could now potentially slide to 26.
It was going to be tough for either Kevin Johnson or Marcus Peters to still be on the board for Baltimore and that certainly panned out. Many of the primary players linked to the Ravens are coming off the board so we may wind up in trade back territory soon. But look out for Bud Dupree who is shockingly STILL available. He’s the type of talent that tends to fall in Ozzie Newsome’s lap. ~Will Spencer
Between Parker, Gordon, Johnson, and Peters, the Ravens will be very disappointed with the quality players at positions of need coming off the board in the last ten picks. But with Bud Dupree Shane Ray, and Randy Gregory still available, maybe Baltimore can come away with quality value at a position the front office has hinted is in their draft plans. ~Kyle Rate
The run on cornerbacks was not too surprising, and from a Ravens perspective, to see Marcus Peters off the board is a bit of a disappointment. I like San Diego’s bold move to trade up for Melvin Gordon. I’m not a fan of running backs that high but Gordon – as well as Gurley – is an elite prospect and could thrive in San Diego. San Francisco has made many picks in recent years, but not many good ones. The selection of Arik Armstead – one of the draft’s true hit-or-miss players – could pay off in the end. ~Kyle Casey
Still no surprises although the Saints selection of Andrus Peat seems to be a slight reach but that helps the Ravens. Would have liked to see DeVante Parker in purple but glad to see that he’s not in the AFC North. Kevin Johnson was the hope after Parker with Marcus Peters as a consolation prize in the event Johnson was chosen. John Harbaugh’s buddy Andy Reid killed those aspirations. Liked Nelson Agholor as well. He’s a great replacement for Maclin in Philly.
Not liking the way the first round is shaping up for the Ravens and a trade back could be in the cards which at this point wouldn’t be a bad strategy if they can find a trading partner. Loading up on picks in Rounds 2 through 4 might be the way to go. I’ll predict a Shane Ray selection at No. 26 if the Ravens keep the pick.
Unfortunately the Browns haven’t screwed up. Hoping the Bengals and/or Steelers do. ~Tony Lombardi
Interest picking up from 11-20.
I don’t think the Ravens will pick a running back with Gurley and Gordon both gone.
The Browns picked Danny Shelton, a massive NT who could be the best NT in the division, but he wears a skirt and plays with Manziel.
Just like 2007 when I screamed at the TV when the 49ers moved ahead of the Ravens to take Joe Staley, I found myself screaming at the selection of Armstead. That’s the guy I wanted for the Ravens at 26. The 49ers not only get their guy moving down 2 spots, but pick up a 4th and a 5th. Great trade.
The cornerback run is on. Johnson and Peters both went much earlier than I expected, which increases the chance the Ravens will take a defensive lineman or WR.
I don’t think it’s terrible for the Browns to take Erving, but that’s still high for a potential guard or center. He could be a good player and a great situational pick with the possible departure of Mack, but I think it’s unlikely he’ll end up being a great value. ~Ken McKusick
I thought that the Chiefs had a great pick in Marcus Peters. In AFC North related news, the Browns strengthened their DL and OL. Zuttah may have his hands full with Shelton. I’m thinking that the Ravens may still draft a WR or CB in the first round. ~Nadeem Kureishy
The butterfly effect triggered by Washington continues with New Orleans declining a pass rusher to secure their O line…the Steelers must be licking their chops after the retirement of Worilds. Could Mr. Bisciotti also prove clairvoyant about an edge rusher in the first round? More of these guys left than expected. ~Mark Weingram
I think Miami gets their dream pick in Parker, and could make a play for the AFC East title. Cleveland made a questionable pick at No. 19, and Philly better win soon, or else Chip Kelly will have a lot of questions to answer. ~Mike Fast
