Ravens’ Best & Worst Offseason Move
This list from Bleacher Report’s Russell S. Baxter ranks Jacoby Jones’ release as the worst offseason move of 2015 for the Ravens and the Justin Forsett re-signing as the best move. While Justin Forsett may have been the best move (personally, I’d argue that it was the Kyle Arrington signing), the fact that the release of Jacoby Jones was the worst shows how much Russell was reaching for a bad move considering his ineffectiveness as a receiver. Will Ravens run ball more or less with Trestman?
Clifton Brown of CSN Baltimore looks at the various factors that will affect how often the Ravens run the ball in 2014 with Marc Trestman as the Offensive Coordinator. In 2014, only the Jets, Texans, and Bengals averaged more rushing yards per game than the Ravens. The Bears, however, ranked 30th in rushing attempts. It will be interesting to see whether or not Trestman sticks with the Ravens’ run-heavy approach, but he should stick with it considering that the Ravens have one of the best offensive lines in the league. Dennis Pitta ‘Optimistic’ About Playing This Year
Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com explains Dennis Pitta’s outlook for the 2015 season. Pitta seems to think that there is a legitimate shot that he will play this season. Right now, doctors are allowing him to push himself as much as his body allows. He is apparently 100% recovered from the injury, but he is not quite in football shape. LINK
Dennis Pitta Likely to Open 2015 Season on PUP List
Phil Gentile, host of the Purple Reign Show podcast, discusses the possibility of Dennis Pitta starting the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, despite what Pitta has said about his 2015 status. He bases this off of Jamison Hensley’s assumptions in his 2015 53-man roster projection. One thing that should be noted – if Dennis Pitta takes the field for any practice in training camp, he will be ineligible for the PUP list. LINK
Javorius Allen vs. Lorenzo Taliaferro: Who will spell Forsett?
Shawn Brubaker of Baltimore Sports and Life examines the back-up running back situation with the Ravens to determine who will spell the starter Forsett. He concludes that the two will complement each other as back-ups. He shows that Taliaferro is more accomplished on the first two downs while Allen is a more accomplished receiver out of the backfield. It will take some time for Allen to learn how to run in a zone-run offense, so we may see more of Taliaferro early on. LINK
