The guy who I expected to win the competition ends up injuring his quad during OTAs. The fact that this is already happening really makes you wonder whether this guy can ever consistently contribute. While smaller receivers with similar builds to Campanaro have flourished in the NFL, there have been a few who have struggled with injuries throughout their career. Danny Amendola comes to mind. If he wasn’t injured so often, he would be the best player to take over the number three wide receiver spot behind Steve Smith Sr. and Breshad Perriman. But injuries are a major factor in a player’s development. I just can’t see him surpassing Marlon Brown and Kamar Aiken when he is constantly on the sideline. ~Tyler Lombardi
Tough blow for a local kid who was going to have an opportunity to make an impact this season. Hopefully this turns out to be a minor injury, but if not, he could be facing an uphill battle in regards to the depth chart for the rest of OTA’s and into training camp. ~Drew Kordula
Waiting for more details on Camp. It is still early in the league year, and the prognosis isn’t available yet, so not too much worry here until there is good reason to do so. You wonder after comments by Bob Rogucki about focusing on the rear muscles (shoulder, back, and hamstrings) that can go underdeveloped in college, if Camp overcorrected last year’s injury and has some sort of muscular imbalance in his legs. This will open a door for a return guy to step up, and maybe give Waller an inside track for one of the final receiver spots without having to be tucked away on some sort of convenient IR at the end of cutdowns. ~Mark Weingram
It’s tough to know whether Michael Campanaro is having a string of really bad luck, or if he’s just an injury prone player. Hopefully his quad is just strained and not torn because Campanaro clearly has talent, but that doesn’t mean much if he can’t stay on the field. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it’s nothing major. ~Ryan Jones
Update: Although it was a tear, it appears as though Campanaro will be healthy and ready for training camp.
