A group of NFL rookies was asked to write down their rookie year goals on a Polaroid picture of themselves. The three Ravens who participated were 4th round pick, Javorius “Buck” Allen, 1st round pick, Breshad Perriman, and 2nd round pick, Maxx Williams. Shoutout to Reddit user /u/krashmania for finding them!
Javorius “Buck” Allen
Buck Allen’s was pretty simple. He wants to become a starter. With a backfield featuring Justin Forsett, much will have to happen in order for Allen to achieve that goal. The only two ways that I can envision Allen starting are Justin Forsett going down with an injury or performing very poorly. It is unlikely that Allen can jump ahead of Forsett in the depth chart based solely on a great preseason or start of the regular season. Hopefully, Allen doesn’t achieve this goal this season and instead contributes as a spell back and passing option. He can become a starter in the future.
Goal: “Best receiver”
This one is quite a lofty goal for a rookie, but I like it. He certainly has the speed to become one of the most explosive receivers in the league, but it’s doubtful that he’ll become the best. I would be happy if he became a top 15 receiver within the next few years. But for next year, I’ll be happy with a solid contribution as a #2 receiver.
Goal: “Win Superbowl”
Now that’s a goal! Oddly enough, of all three of the rookies’ goals, I think that it is the most realistic. The Ravens’ roster has been ranked among the top 3 teams by a number of outlets, including Peter King who ranked the Ravens number one. It is more likely that the Ravens as a team win another Lombardi than Perriman becoming the best wide receiver in the league in his first year or Buck Allen becoming a starter with Justin Forsett ahead of him.
Way to go, Maxx!
