Many times in our lives, there are events that stay with us long after we have witnessed them.
Our favorite games, an awkward moment that we found funny afterwards, or even a historical event that captivated our attention.
Earlier this offseason, the River Hill High School (Clarksville, MD) graduate, along with several of his Ravens teammates, visited Douglass High School in West Baltimore, hoping to provide unity to the area after it was devastated by the riots that seized the city in late April.
While visiting the school served a purpose during those difficult times, Campanaro felt that he needed to do more. On
Tuesday, the local football player returned to Douglass, this time to donate 80 pairs of Under Armour cleats to the school’s football team.
“When we visited Douglass as a team after the riots, I had an opportunity to talk to some of the football players, and I noticed they were all about playing football and not really getting caught up in all the negativity surrounding the school,” said Campanaro about his donation. “It made me want to help them out anyway I could.
“I remember being a high school player, one of the things I thought about a lot was having fresh cleats so I teamed up with Under Armour to hook the program up. I talked to them about sticking together as a team and having a special year.”
Giving back has always been something that Campanaro has felt strongly about. The shifty wide receiver has taken part in several Ravens community initiatives. He also held his own event, the Marine Toys for Tots holiday drive last year.
While Campanaro may still be raw on the playing field, his off-the-field work is that of a seasoned pro.
Great Job Michael!!
