Please Stop Drafting Matt Ryan So High in Fantasy Football
Unfortunately, this blog isn’t filled with a bunch of Matt Ryan criticisms. JJ Zachariason praises Ryan for his on-the-field ability, but, for whatever reason, he hasn’t translated his efficiency as a passer to fantasy football success. He has a high floor, but floors aren’t what you should look for at the quarterback position, as JJ will explain. LINK
Jimmy Graham to block ’75 percent’ of the time in Seattle
This won’t make all of you dynasty leaguers with Jimmy Graham very happy. Kevin Patra of NFL media reports that Jimmy Graham said that blocking is about 75% of the offense in Seattle. While I doubt that one of the most unique athletes in the NFL will be blocking 3/4 of the time, I do think that Jimmy Graham will see a reduction in value this season. LINK
Using Firefactor to Dominate Your Fantasy Football League: Quarterback Edition
Brandon Gdula of numberFire uses one of their metrics, FireFactor to show you why it isn’t smart (some would call it stupid, even) to draft one of the top tier quarterbacks. He explains that the difference between the top quarterbacks and the middle-of-the-pack and lower tier quarterbacks isn’t as great as the difference between the top running backs and the non-elite ones. The fact that the league is a passing league now means that more quarterbacks are passing for more yards. There are plenty of opportunities late in the draft to pick up a quarterback because of this. Draft Strategy Calculator
This is a pretty awesome tool from Fantasy Football Calculator. It determines your fantasy points per week by determining which position you want to pick in each round. If you play around with the calculator, you’ll find something similar to what I will tell you in every edition of Fantasy links until the season starts: early round running backs are more valuable than quarterbacks. 7 Late-Round Running Backs to Target This Season in Fantasy Football Drafts
The numberFire staff comes up with seven running backs who could provide good value late in drafts this year. Those running backs are David Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals, Lance Dunbar of the Cowboys, Reggie Bush of the 49ers, Jay Ajayi of the Miami Dolphins, Javorius Allen of the Baltimore Ravens (woo!), Montee Ball of the Denver Broncos, and Duke Johnson of the Cleveland Browns. Arian Foster suffers groin injury
Arian Foster’s groin injury is serious in nature. Source said it should require surgery & may be candidate for IR w/ designation for return.
— Jayson Braddock (@JaysonBraddock) August 4, 2015
Arian Foster’s history of injuries is something that fantasy owners should and do consider when drafting. I’ve found that his injury history is something that has meant you can draft him at a pretty good value. But if this is true and he’s an IR-designated to return candidate, the fantasy value of his back-up, Alfred Blue, just skyrocketed.
