The Ravens were back on the practice field Monday for the first time since their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in their second preseason game of the season.
In a practice that looked more like a rookie mini-camp, the field consisted of mostly backups, with vets and the majority of starters missing practice due to meetings and a few injuries. Ricky Wagner, Crockett Gillmore, Kendrick Lewis, C.J. Mosley and Timmy Jernigan were among the few starters that did see action on Monday afternoon.
In total, 33 players were not on the field.
Head coach John Harbaugh confirmed the starters were kept out today as he wanted to put more emphasis on the younger players and special teams.
Injury update
In recent weeks, Harbaugh said he wasn’t in the business of talking about injuries anymore, but he did provide an update on a few players including running back Lorenzo Taliaferro and wide receiver Michael Campanaro.
After colliding with offensive lineman James Hurst against the Eagles on Saturday night, Taliaferro is expected to miss a few weeks due to a MCL sprain.
The injury to Lorenzo opens up the door for rookies Buck Allen and Terrence Magee to see a vast increase in reps.
“Buck Allen, I thought ran the ball really well,” Harbaugh said following practice. “[He had] great vision, showed some real elusiveness in there. Both Magee and [Toussaint] did a heck of a job. They were running hard north-south, and really made some guys miss.”
While Harbaugh did not go into detail about the injury that forced Campanaro to miss the game in Philly, he did advise it was a soft tissue injury and said he doesn’t expect the WR to miss much time. He did, however, caution that he’s been wrong before.
The Ravens got a little depth back to their offensive line on Monday as Wagner along with Jah Reid returned. Wagner was kept out of full-team drills as a precaution.
Harbaugh Happy With NFL On Suggs Incident
Harbaugh had a few choice words for the Eagles players that took to the post-game mics talking about the hit Terrell Suggs placed on quarterback Sam Bradford.
Harbs was pleased about the NFL coming out and telling the full story about Suggs’ hit on Bradford, which was ruled a clean hit.
“When you start popping off about somebody’s character, you cross the line,” a fiery Harbaugh said Monday. “That’s not really something that we would respect. But most of their guys over there understood the play and understood [Suggs] was playing hard and trying to get stops.”
