I think it’s funny (not in a ha-ha kind of way) when fans and the media pile on Joe Flacco, blame him for a loss, when the Ravens secondary is like a sieve, with all due respect to the sieve.
When will the Ravens give this guy a few weapons? Could any other quarterback get it done with the collection of talent surrounding Flacco?
He has James Hurst protecting his blindside. James Hurst.
It’s amazing that Flacco isn’t taken from the game in a hearse.
Let me give you a little perspective. Pro Football Focus has become a go-to source for the quantitative analysis of football minutiae. In 2014 of all the offensive tackles graded for all 32 teams during the entire season, only 1 ever had a score of (-10) or worse. Just one – the Falcons Jake Matthews.
In 2015, 3 games in, James Hurst has done it twice!
As for the skill positions, the team’s No. 2 WR has 6 catches for 88 yards. Not on average – in TOTAL. 5 of those catches were against the 30th ranked pass defense, the Oakland Raiders, totaling 89 yards. So in the other two games he has 1 catch in TOTAL for -1 yard.
But you say the Ravens are a run-first team?
Well Justin Forsett is averaging 3.2 yards per carry. Those numbers are preventing Ray Rice from getting a job. But but it can’t all be on Justin, right? After all he has averaged 5 yards per carry on 621 career chances.
The tight ends…sure they are promising but among the 3 on the roster, there are a combined four starts.
So the 29th passing defense aside, there’s plenty of blame to go around on the Ravens offense not assigned to Joe Flacco.
Instead of wondering what Flacco isn’t getting done, maybe we should all marvel at what he’s gotten done with so little.
