Joe Morgan Signing Doesn’t Add Much

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Ravens have signed WR Joe Morgan, formerly of the New Orleans Saints. Our staff doesn’t think much of the signing.

Brian Bower

Speaks volumes to just how bad Hakeem Nicks has fallen. The former Saint provides vet help at the position, but that’s about it. Morgan isn’t much better than what they have.

Adam Bonaccorsi

Many Ravens fans have been clamoring to sign a big name receiver who is nothing more than a shell of his former self (Nicks, Welker, Wayne). Instead they get Joe Morgan and all 14 of his career receptions.

I’m on board! The Ravens are giving a guy with potential a shot in hopes that he can blossom in a new environment, which should be the goal for a 2-6 team unlikely to make the playoffs, instead of signing a has-been, injury-prone vet simply because of their name and career accomplishments.

By the way, how is Hakeem Nicks only 27??

Kyle Casey

Just another meaningless roster filler. Speaks more to how bad Hakeem Nicks must really be at this point in his career.

Joe Polek

What does it hurt? Nothing.
what does it help? Nothing.

They need receivers. No one they can get off the street in November is actually going to produce any more than the guys they already have. Yes, people know his name, but he was available in November for a reason.

Drew Forrester

Eh, nothing to see here.

He’s just a guy.

I’m not saying the Ravens shouldn’t be looking to add a wide receiver, because the lot they have now isn’t anywhere
near good enough. There’s just no one out there worth having at this point.

I’m still on board, though. Let’s make chicken salad out of chicken manure and shock the world.

Tony Lombardi

Joe Freakin’ Morgan! Wow! The skeptics will point out that he only has 14 more career NFL catches than Breshad Perriman but there’s no denying his skills as a second baseman. Maybe the O’s can bump Jonathan Schoop to a corner outfield spot now. Oh, wait…

Derek Arnold

When I first read this, I thought it was going to say Joe Horn.

Sadly, I thought to myself “yeah, that sounds about right.”

Brian McFarland

Nothing to get excited about in either direction. They needed another WR and short of a trade (which for a 2-6 team doesn’t make any sense), they weren’t going to get anyone of any quality. It is what it is.

Tyler Lombardi

He has just 14 career receptions, but this was one of them.

So that’s pretty cool.

Really, though, the Ravens add another speed option to go along with Chris Givens and Jeremy Ross. We’ll see whether this one turns out. The last two have been important additions to the team. Hopefully, Morgan can be the same.

The odds are against him, however. He couldn’t make plays when Drew Brees was throwing to him.

Ryan Jones

The biggest news about the Joe Morgan signing is it’s a reflection of how bad Hakeem Nicks must look. Nicks is only 27, and he had back to back 1000 yard seasons less than four years ago. Now he can’t catch on anywhere, as the Ravens were his fifth tryout this year.  As far as Morgan is concerned, he brings more speed, which can’t hurt, but his impact will likely be restricted to a deep shot here and there and maybe an end around when teams aren’t paying attention.

Ken McKusick

Any street signing is at the replacement level. Aiken, Givens and Ross are the top 3 for now. As I see it Morgan will play some, but Brown will have his time reduced.
