Rule Changes Not What Harbaugh Wanted

Harbaugh says the fans are officiating the games better than the officials. The rule changes that passed aren’t exactly the ones Harbaugh was hoping for. Charter planes will take Ravens to Walker’s funeral. Gillmore and Perriman should be ready for OTAs, Suggs and Flacco by training camp. Bisciotti adds to the left tackle confusion.

‘The Fans Are Officiating the Game in Replay’

Peter King of MMQB has been complimentary of John Harbaugh in the past couple of years, and he is on the Ravens’ side again. This time, he is critical of the NFL’s process of implementing new common sense rules. Today, Baltimore proposed a rule to expand the replay review system. It wasn’t one of the seven rules that passed today, but Harbaugh thinks it’s inevitable it will.

“There were five games last year that were determined by non-reviewable calls that determined the outcome of the game,” Harbaugh said. “The fans don’t understand that. They don’t want to look at that all week, that the official made a mistake that the fans can see in real time that the league said, ‘It’s not reviewable. We can’t fix that.’

“What do you mean we can’t fix it? We can’t fix it because we decide not to be able to fix it. If we can fix it, just fix it. Make it reviewable.”

NFL Bans Chop Block, Passes Six Other Rule Changes

Garrett Downing of Ravens Media details Harbaugh’s opinion on the chop block rule change, and it isn’t glowing. “Teams have been running the stretch-zone scheme for years,” Harbaugh said. “Look at Denver. Look at Houston. It’s a great finesse run play…Based on a few of the clips that they put in there by one team, that posting and cutting people’s knee, that could be cleaned up real simply by getting that team to stop doing that technique.”

Harbaugh’s concern is that defenders will make a greater effort to hold offensive players, which would prevent other linemen from executing a cut block.

Ravens will charter plane players get to Tray Walker’s funeral

According to Harbaugh, Steve Bisciotti is getting a charter plane for anyone who wants to go down to Miami for Tray Walker‘s funeral this weekend. “I don’t know the arrangements right now, but knowing Steve, he’ll do it to the max, Harbaugh said. “He’s talked to me about chartering a whole plane for everybody that wants to go down. I think Steve will make it possible for everybody that’s in Baltimore or wants to get to Baltimore to fly down together and Steve will pay for that. That’s just how he does it.”

The funeral is at 1PM at 93rd St. Baptist Church in Miami.

Ravens Still Plan On Signing Trent Richardson

John Harbaugh at the Owners’ meetings today stated that he Ravens have an “unofficial agreement” with Trent Richardson still, says John Eisenberg of Ravens Media. The deal seems dependent upon his physical condition, based on Harbaugh’s comments. “It’s in Trent’s court. Ozzie and Trent have talked a lot. I text with Trent all the time. He’s keeping me posted on his training,” Harbaugh said. “I’m kind of excited about it. Talking on the phone, I really liked him. He’s a high-caliber, high-draft pick guy and it seems like he’s really motivated. Wants to do well.”

Time will tell, but I have my doubts.

Ravens tight end Crockett Gillmore should be ready for OTAs

We received good news today across the injury front, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun. Breshad Perriman and Crockett Gillmore should both be ready for OTAs. Fans will breathe a sigh of relief when they see Perriman practicing, in particular. Suggs and Flacco are expected to be ready by training camp.

Bisciotti adds to left tackle confusion

Earlier today, I posted a story examining Harbaugh’s comments regarding the left tackle position. He said that someone outside of the organization and Ricky Wagner were both potential options. Bisciotti made comments today that flew in the face of that.

Harbaugh is a coach who doesn’t like to reveal much to the media. I raised the argument that his comments regarding Eugene Monroe could have been lip service. If you believe what Bisciotti said, then they absolutely are.
