The story of Richardson’s rise from rock bottom that is likely to culminate in a roster spot on the Ravens. Harbaugh takes an unorthodox, family-oriented approach to football. Goodell should give Harbaugh the title of President of Football. Another AFC North player has a grueling intellectual journey to go along with his NFL career. Brigance Brigade will hold a charity event tomorrow at The Boathouse in Canton. Tucker and his wife celebrate their first anniversary.

Inside Trent Richardson’s rise from near rock bottom back to the NFL

Matt Zenitz of AL.com and former Baltimore sports personality details the story of Trent Richardson. He had nearly hit rock bottom after being out of the NFL after the Raiders released him. He was depressed and barely watched football. But he is working hard to prove his worth to the Ravens and to get back in shape. This story will make you appreciate all the challenges NFL players face when they enter the league.

Richardson is making significant progress, weighing in lighter than he ever has. Still, for a player who says he was committed to getting back into football shape, I would have hoped he would have been in shape right away. The risk is very low for the Ravens to make this signing. After reading this, I like Richardson much more, but I have my doubts about him keeping up his work ethic.

John Harbaugh’s unorthodox approach — football as family

We often think in terms of black and white. We avoid the areas of gray because they’re complicated. If you follow that line of thinking, you could see why fans of teams around the league might dislike Harbaugh for the way he continuously defended Ray Rice for his heinous act against his wife in the elevator. In Harbaugh’s eyes, though, Rice was family. Every member of his team is family, and he is going to stand by them.

It opens him up to criticism, sure. Some call his act phony, but, as Kevin Van Valkenburg of ESPN tells us, Harbaugh doesn’t care. He isn’t afraid to where his heart on his sleeve, and it has made players listen when they need it most, like during the tough times they have endured this offseason when they lost a teammate.

Roger Goodell should give John Harbaugh a title: President of Football

In today’s MMQB blog, Peter King looks back at the Owners’ Meetings and his conversation with John Harbaugh. The Ravens coach’s advocacy for the game of football led King to consider him the “President of Football”. Here is the full video. Elsewhere in the blog he discusses the Orioles and thanks Patrick Gleason (Ravens) and Jim Misudek (Orioles) for affording him the opportunity to talk to Buck Showalter. He spent a couple of off days down in Sarasota watching Orioles spring training.

Andrew Hawkins’ Ivy League Crash Course

Kalyn Kahler of MMQB writes about a typical Thursday during the offseason for Andrew Hawkins of the Cleveland Browns. His day involves an early morning trip to the gym, a flight from Tampa to Newark, and then three back-to-back two hour classes. At the end of the day, he needs to make his flight back home to Tampa to see his wife and kids.

Unlike John Urschel, Hawkins isn’t in a Ph.D. program. His goal is to become a general manager in the NFL. The program that he is in right now aims to give him the qualifications to become a member of a professional front office to put himself into a position to reach that goal.

Some of my favorite stories about athletes are ones that you read and know that athlete will be able to make it in life after football. This is definitely one of them.

Celebrity Crush Night at The Boathouse

Tomorrow night in Canton, the Brigance Brigade is holding an event at The Boathouse. A few local celebrities will be the guest wait staff for the evening including John Harbaugh, Gary Williams, Keith Mills, Michael McCrary and Matt Stover.
