Signing The Former Alabama Star Has no Downside

Trent Richardson was once described by former NFL executive Bill Polian as, “a sure thing.” And who could blame him? After all Richardson tore it up at the University of Alabama in 2011 as a junior, averaging 5.9 yards per carry and 11.7 yards per catch on his way to 2,017 yards from scrimmage for the National Champion Crimson Tide.
Why he hasn’t been a sure thing is a mystery.
Some say Richardson got lazy. Others say that too many friends and family members, clinging to him for support, sucked the life out of him. Still others questioned his commitment to and love for the game.
Now Richardson has 1 play left in the NFL – with the Baltimore Ravens.
Richardson is only 25 and wants to leave his mark on the NFL. At least that’s what he says now. He appears to be re-committed to prove to himself and his children that he is worthy of this third chance with his 4th NFL team.
The Ravens have nothing to lose by giving Richardson the chance. He won’t be demanding guaranteed money and probably will accept a modest 1-year deal for the opportunity to try and take Lorenzo Taliaferro’s or Terrance West’s spot on the 53-man roster.
There is no down side in it for the Ravens. Only upside.
Maybe, just maybe Richardson can get his groove back.
We all love a good story with a happy ending.
In the not too distant future, we’ll find out if Richardson’s story is one of them.
