Ravens 4th Best Drafting Team Since 1996

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Ravens are the 4th best drafting team since 1996, but they aren’t as good at finding late round steals. A petition starts for MD-themed jerseys. Bayless leaves ESPN and joins some critical peers, but we’ll miss his exchanges with Suggs. To wrap things up, we take a look at Noah Spence in the film room.

Legendary? Lousy? How the Baltimore Ravens have fared in the NFL draft

According to findings from The Washington Post, the Ravens have been the 4th best drafting team since 1996. They fall behind only the Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, and Green Bay Packers. They sit just ahead of the Patriots. Their average draft position has been 17, and their best draft class was the first one.

Best and worst teams at finding late-round steals

Ozzie Newsome has a reputation for finding late-round steals. Players like Pernell McPhee and Rick Wagner have bolstered the roster with picks that you might have missed on TV. But the Ravens haven’t been as successful as you’d think with the late-rounders according to ESPN’s Sharon Katz. The Ravens rank 27th according to Approximate Value, ahead of only the Browns, Rams, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Lions since 2006.

Petition for Maryland flag Ravens jerseys

Yep, someone started it. Scholar97 on Reddit has started a petition to get the NFL to cooperate with Nike to allow the Ravens to use Maryland-themed color rush jerseys. A leaked document from the NFL suggested that the Ravens would wear them for Thursday Night Football’s color rush, but those plans have changed. Scholar97 and 50 others like the Maryland pride concept as much as me and think a petition could change the NFL’s mind.

Source: Skip Bayless Is Leaving ESPN For Fox Sports

We’ve managed to create a world where trolls become the main subject of our discussion. None managed to do so better than Skip Bayless on FirstTake. ESPN announced that Bayless will be leaving the network when his contract expires, so we’ll quickly figure out that Stephen A. is actually worse than Bayless. Also, we won’t get any more of this:

Kevin Draper of Deadspin has a source telling him that Bayless will be joining Fox Sports.

Here Are What Fox Sports Personalities Have Tweeted About Skip Bayless

So this is fun. Matt Yoder of Awful Announcing compiled some of the tweets that Clay Travis, Katie Nolan, and Jason Whitlock have posted about the FirstTake antagonist. Here’s one from Whitlock.

Could he become one of those “attention-starved puppets”? Time will tell, but probably.

RSP Film Room No.81: Noah Spence

Players with character issues often get painted as less than intelligent people. That isn’t the case for Noah Spence. On the field, he’s a highly intelligent player. Against the run, he often gets too caught up reading the play like an off-the-ball linebacker, and he doesn’t leverage his hips in a way that allows him to disengage.

As a pass rusher, however, he’s technically sound and athletically gifted. He has great bend and has a rip move if he catches an offensive linemen setting up too far outside. If you watch this RSP Film Room with Matt Waldman and John Owning, you’ll see why many consider him the player with the best edge potential.
