This offseason, Eugene Monroe’s biggest focus has been on ridding the NFL of its opioid problem. Certainly a noble goal for a thoughtful, learned man.
However, it appears it has taken his attention away from getting ready for the season. He certainly hasn’t spent much of his time with the team training. On the first day he needed to be there, he was nowhere to be found. As a result, it appears that his time in Baltimore will be over soon, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun.
As for Monroe, it appears that Ravens are moving on him from him, either via trade or release. Situation should be settled soon.

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded Eugene Monroe to the Ravens for draft pick compensation back in 2013. At first, it looked like it would be a good marriage between Monroe and the Ravens. In 2014, he was effective when he was healthy, but he missed five games due to injury during the season. Still, the offensive line was one of the best in the league and Monroe was a part of it. Then, he missed the first playoff game of that season and dressed for the next but didn’t finish the game. That’s where things turned sour between Monroe and the fans.
Last year, he was on and off the field frequently due to injury, playing in just six games. He ended the season on Injured Reserve.
This offseason, Harbaugh hasn’t exactly been one to commend Monroe on his mission for cannabis research. “I promise you, he does not speak for the organization,” Harbaugh stated at the Owners Meetings in March. Whether that had anything to do with the Ravens’ decision is up for debate, but it looks like the relationship between Monroe and Baltimore will be over soon.
