With Lacy Doubtful, Green Bay Signs Davis
According to rotoworld.com, “NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Eddie Lacy has “more than a sprained ankle” and is expected to miss “several” weeks.” If Lacy does in fact miss multiple weeks, there will be more opportunities for backups Ty Montgomery (who’s actually a wide receiver) and newly-acquired Knile Davis. James Starks, the usual backup for Lacy, is “likely” out for multiple weeks after knee surgery, according to FOX Sports via ESPN.
When reading about all the different options the Packers are trying to come up with to fill Lacy’s spot, I got the impression that Montgomery or Davis aren’t worth adding as I don’t see them getting enough quality touches.
Green Bay’s offense is kind of unpredictable to start with, so with Lacy likely out for awhile, I’d steer clear of claiming any Packers running backs, despite the increase in touches they’re likely to receive.
10 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets Heading Into Week 7
Here, Matt Blair of numberFire does a good job of pointing out how even the best laid lineups can go astray. Injuries, poor production, and/or flat out bad luck can contribute to a woefully disappointing week
Some of his waiver wire targets for Week 7 that I think will have a very good week are Bears wide receiver Cameron Meredith and Patriots running back James White.
Meredith will face a Sam Shields-less Packers defense on Thursday night, as the Pro Bowl cornerback was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. That’s very good news for Meredith, who quietly, has made a name for himself in fantasy football, as he’s garnered 27 targets in the past two weeks (according to Blair). In each of those two games, Meredith has made at least nine receptions for at least 110 yards. The Bears may be passing often on Thursday night, so a flyer on Meredith looks to be wise use of a roster spot.
Regarding Eddie Royal’s absence from Tuesday’s practice (from rotoworld.com): “The always-injured Royal has little chance of suiting up on a short week. His absence leaves more targets for Cameron Meredith and Zach Miller. ”
James White is another player that, especially in ppr leagues, is developing into a must-start every week. Since Tom Brady’s return, White has caught 12 passes for 110 yards and two scores in two weeks. Even if you’re not in a ppr league and you have White on your team, the way his production is trending makes it hard for you to sit him.
This week, the Cowboys and the Panthers are on a bye. So if you have players like Cam Newton, Dak Prescott, Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Olsen, or Ezekiel Elliott, you’re looking for replacements that can score big points to offset the loss of your star player.
Matt Harmon of NFL.com gives his take on some players that could do the trick.
At quarterback, Harmon highlights Colin Kaepernick. Despite his controversial political stance, Kaepernick still possesses incredible physical potential. Now that he’s the 49ers’ starter (again), he will have an opportunity to showcase that talent. He’s a dual-threat quarterback with a cannon for an arm, and he’s playing at home against Tampa Bay. For a bye week substitute, you could do worse.
As far as wide receivers go, Pierre Garcon, who’s suddenly found his stride, could be a nice play as Washington travels to Detroit this week. Garcon scored his first touchdown of the year two weeks ago against the Ravens, and over the last two weeks, is averaging 12 yards per reception. The Lions defense ranks 23rd in points allowed per game (25.5), so the Redskins will certainly take a couple of shots deep down the field.
Lastly, if you’re looking for a tight end this week (and possibly for the next couple of weeks), maybe you should think about adding Houston’s C.J. Fiedorowicz. Over the last three games, he’s scored two touchdowns and is averaging about 62 yards receiving per game. He’s projected to get less than three points in Yahoo! standard leagues, but take it from me: tight end projections should be taken with a grain of salt (I sat Hunter Henry in favor of Dennis Pitta last week).
