Dear John Harbaugh,
Please stop insulting the intelligence of Ravens fans. Enough already.
Perhaps you’ve heard the money quote from John following Sunday’s victory 21-14 victory over the Steelers. If not, allow me to enlighten you:
“I think our offense won the game today. That’s the No. 1 thought. I felt like Joe [Flacco] figured out, especially in the second half … [He] played the game to win the game. He didn’t really try to force any balls in there.
“Even some passes that you’re going to look at and say, ‘You know what, he could have completed that pass.’ He chose not to a few times, I think. I think he understood the situation of the game, so I’ll give him credit for that. The run game had moments, but the consistency wasn’t there.”
I’m sorry, what game was John watching and did he really say that Joe Flacco opted not to complete passes because of the situation of the game?
You can’t make this stuff up.
I get the notion that a coach never wants to publicly throw a player or personnel under the bus, but please John, spare us all the rah rah coach-speak about Flacco. Should the team falter down the stretch due to the stagnant offense, so such silly defenses of the quarterback are likely to appease Mr. Bisciotti.
Has it gotten to the point where, because there is nothing positive to say about the team’s 27th ranked offense, that you’re forced to make silly statements that no one believes but yourself (and do you even)?
Harbaugh is a great guy, but lately fails to answer the tough questions. The offense is already on their second coordinator this year, and even with key pieces like Steve Smith Sr., Marshal Yanda, and Ronnie Stanley back Sunday, they still couldn’t sustain anything.
To be clear, we’re not blaming Harbaugh for the offensive struggles (at least not in this particular space).
My issue is that answers like “the offense won the game for us,” when it was clearly the play of the defense and special teams, and “our penalties are fixable,” when they are an issue every week, leave you with egg on your face and a fans & observers with a bad taste in our mouths.
We don’t want your secrets, we don’t want your game plans. We just don’t want to be lied to about what we’re seeing with our own eyes.
