The Ravens nearly blew another fourth quarter lead on Sunday against the Bengals but thanks to an Elvis Dumervil strip sack that was recovered by Lawrence Guy and some heads up coaching from John Harbaugh and Special Teams Coordinator Jerry Rosburg, the Ravens escaped with a 19-14 win despite an offense that produced just 101 yards, no third-down conversions and 3 points in the second half.
The game ending safety that the Ravens opted to accepted was viewed by many as a stroke of genius and even CBS Analyst Dan Fouts, unleashing his inner Guinness commercial, labeled the move as “brilliant”.
Fans have shared their opinions through blog comments, social media and message board posts. Some agree with Fouts while others seem ashamed that the Ravens had to “cheat” in order to beat a team with just 3 wins.

Regardless of where you sit along the spectrum of opinion on this topic, the play was reminiscent of comical scenes from movies such as The Longest Yard and The Replacements. It’s also a play that is nearly identical to that which ended Super Bowl 47.
