With today’s trade of Kamalei Correa to the Tennessee Titans in the books (a 6th rounder was a steal in my eyes), I started to poke around the roster a bit and I gotta tell ya folks… if other teams are equally as foolish as the Titans – who gave up a 6th for a OLB-forced-ILB by his former Defensive Coordinator who just happens to be his new DC in Tennessee, and is likely to push him back inside once again?
I think the Ravens aren’t done with the trade games.Â
In fact, I think we’ll see at least three more – possibly four – as the Ravens try to trim the roster down to 53.Â
Without further adieu… here’s my stupid list.Â
P/K Kaare Vedvik
The rumor mill is already in full swing when it comes to the next great leg in the Ravens’ UDFA Boot Brigade, as Kaare Vedvik is surely drawing interest. His skill as both a punter and a kicker is alluring in itself, but the fact that he’s actually good at both can pump that value for sure.Â
Remember this: NOBODY DRAFTS KICKERS OR PUNTERS IN THE NFL (at least not smart teams). To get anything for Vedvik, who was a UDFA out of Marshall, would be fantastic, although personally I’d prefer to trade 37-year-old Sam Koch, possibly bump the trade value and save $2.5M against the cap (apparently I also like to have insults thrown my way but whatevs).
On a quick side note, think about the legs that the Ravens have brought into the NFL today: Graham Gano, Steve Hauschka, Sam Koch, Wil Lutz, Justin Tucker, and now Kaare Vedvik.Â
Not too shabby, boys!
Possible Trade Partners: Chargers, Jets, Fins
Possible Compensation: A 7th in 2019, possibly a 6th if the Ravens throw in the Norwegian Rosetta Stone.Â
Breshad Perriman
What can we say about our friendly Baltimore ghost? He’s fast…
And…Â
That’s about it.Â
Before the preseason kicked off, I assumed Perriman was trade bait, but once we saw Corey Coleman get traded to the Buffalo Bills for a 6th Round pick? I instantly thought Breshad would find a pink slip and nothing more.
That being said? There’s a stupid GM out there who thinks BP has untapped potential (still), and would pull the trigger to try and release that potential, much like in the Casper the Friendly Ghost movie of the 90’s when they tried to turn him back to human (spoiler alert: he stayed a ghost).Â
Possible Trade Partners: Bills, Pats, Cards
Possible Compensation: A bag of balls (would have to include jar of Stickum with Perriman if they want the balls inflated upon delivery)
Kenneth Dixon
Kenneth Dixon is such a controversial name among the Baltimore Raven fandom.
Some folks look at 2016, when Dixon had a five-game stretch that was phenomenal, believe he’s still that guy, and should without a doubt be rostered.Â
Then there’s the sane/intelligent fans that realize he’s had multiple knee injuries, multiple suspensions (PEDs as well as substance abuse), and hasn’t played in a meaningful game since December of 2016, while also not seeing a ton of snaps in the preseason.Â
The hope is that the Ravens brass fall into the latter category, while some other schlub GM falls into the group of knuckleheads who think Dixon is still a RB1.Â
Possible Trade Partners:Â Pats, Colts, Broncos
Possible Compensation: 6th Round Pick in 2019 & a personal thank you card from me to Ozzie Newsome & Eric DeCosta.
Carl Davis
Ah, the commodity trade.Â
Much like the Correa deal, the Ravens have more than enough ample bodies at a deep position, which leads to Carl Davis as the odd man out based on value vs contract.
Basically he’s not starting and they know they won’t be re-signing him next year, so ship ‘im out!
This trade would closely mimic last year in April when the Ravens were able to trade DT Timmy Jernigan to the Eagles for a swap of 3rd round picks, allowing the Ravens to move up 25 spots. The Ravens knew they weren’t re-signing Jernigan, so they moved him, just like the could with Davis now.
Imagine if they could get a similar haul as they did for Jernigan…
Possible Trade Partners:Â Eagles again because Jernigan is injured, they’ve made this trade before, and they love former Ravens
Possible Compensation: Swap 4th Round picks, 6th Round picks, and maybe head coaches for a game or two? No? It’s cool, I tried.
Maxx Williams
Screw you, this is my article and I champion for Darren Waller on the 53 every year!
So here’s the deal: there are maybe five or six teams in the entire NFL with a legit TE group. Thanks to math, we can conclude that there are 26-27 teams who could use depth at tight end.Â
The Ravens currently have three locks in Hayden Hurst, Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle. Beyond that? Big ol’ question mark, mostly because the rest all possess some value, but not necessarily a ton:
-Waller is solid on special teams and has solid hands in the passing game, but can’t block to save his life.Â
–Vince Mayle is solid on special teams but provides zero help on offense.
-Maxx is a good blocker, but ‘meh’ in the passing game, and provides minimal ST help at best.
Let’s be honest Ravens fans: if we get this far down the depth chart due to injuries? We’re already screwed! So why not trade the guy with the most (potential) upside in Williams? Let somebody else deal with a plodding tight end who is never going to be better than a TE2 on his best day, but a TE3 most days.
Potential Trade Partners:Â Jets, Cards, Jags
Potential Compensation: 6th Rd pick, and we get to keep one of the X’s to add to Morgan Cox‘s name. He deserves the Double-X.
