Were moving in the right direction, but man was there unrealized blow-up potential with last week’s team.
They scored 177.80 points, led by Kareem Hunt’s three-TD game, the Mack/Colts D stack that demolished the Bills, and Saquon Barkley’s nine-catch game. DeSean Jackson scored a rushing TD early then mostly disappeared. Brandin Cooks scored a solid 17 points but the 49ers couldn’t keep the game interesting enough to keep him involved. C.J. Uzomah had 13 more yards than I did on Sunday, but got into the end zone and Jermaine Kearse had a donut.
Ah well, enough of my crying…on to week 8.
QB Jared Goff vs. GB
Jared Goff has underwhelmed the last couple of weeks but finds himself in a nice matchup where game script shouldn’t be the problem it became last week. In what should be the highest scoring game of the week, I like Goff’s chances at 300+ yards and three or more TDs in a duel where Aaron Rodgers is sure to keep the Rams on the gas pedal.
DraftKings salary: 6,000
RB James Conner vs. CLE
This is potentially James Conner’s last game as a feature back in 2018 and he’s going out (maybe) in style. The Browns have the 27th ranked run defense, giving up a ripe 134 yards per game on 4.5 yards a clip. Going up against a struggling offense with identity issues, the Steelers should control this game giving Conner multiple TD and clock-killing appeal.
DraftKings salary: 7,500
RB David Johnson vs. SF
I want to believe y’all! When the Cards handed over the reigns to Byron Leftwich I started creating all that Bruce Arians math in my head like that Zach Galifianakis meme. But then Leftwich started to confirm those thoughts during his media availability. David Johnson is one of the best open field talents in football and if he’s going to be featured in that way I have to try my hand. It helps that the 49ers give up the 3rd highest number of targets per game to RB in the NFL at a little over nine a game. I’m stepping out on faith this week; if Leftwich comes out on the field with a kangol on I may shed a tear.
DraftKings salary: 6,700
WR Davante Adams @LAR
Continuing my exposure to the LAR/GB fireworks show with the NFL’s leader in red zone targets. The Rams were supposed to be an imposing secondary but injury and uneven play has made them one you can attack, especially since their offense keeps the opponent in pass mode. Davante Adams is one of the easiest plays of the week.
DraftKings salary: 7,900
WR Robert Woods vs GB
Sensing a theme here? I’m pairing Goff with the super steady Robert Woods. Playing more slot since the Cooper Kupp injury just raises his already ideal floor. The Packers have a solid defense but have been vulnerable in the slot and give up the 11th most fantasy points to the receiver position.
DraftKings salary: 6,800
WR Martavis Bryant vs. IND
Not even going to lie, I kept looking for alternatives here but I needed someone cheap and as gross as it feels it just made too much sense. The Colts have seemed focused on not giving up the big play which obviously is Martavis Bryant’s appeal. If they were fully healthy I’d probably veer elsewhere but they’ll be missing both starting safeties this week in game where he’s going to be out there a TON. He can still run with the best of them – one deep shot can pay off his salary but his floor is stronger than we’re accustomed to it being.
DraftKings salary: 3,700
TE O.J. Howard @CIN
O.J. Howard is coming off his most targeted game of the season and now gets to face off with the seam-vulnerable Bengals. Cincy gives up the 5th most points to the position and allows a healthy nine targets per game. Howard might be the best tight end value play on the board this week.
DraftKings salary: 3,900
Flex Phillip Lindsay @KC
Phillip Lindsay should be fully #Freed this week with no Royce Freeman. Lindsay is averaging an impressive 5.8 yards per carry on the season and if the game goes sideways (it should), the Chiefs give up the 11th most targets per game to running backs at almost eight per game (7.7). Lindsay should have little trouble eclipsing his season high of 17 touches making him a strong play this week.
DraftKings salary: 5,200
Defense Steelers vs. CLE
Baker Mayfield has been taking sacks left and right and the Steelers are 3rd in the NFL with 22 on the season. They also might run into the problem of too many cooks in the kitchen with Hue Jackson angling to get more involved on offense. The return and resurgence of CB Joe Haden has led to a solid couple of weeks from the Steelers defense. Play them with confidence in this matchup, especially at the price.
