QB Carson Wentz vs. Washington

My only concern in this one is how long will Washington put up a fight. Completely outmatched from an offensive prospective, Wentz may be just handing the ball off by the start of the 4th quarter. Washington has a fairly solid defense and were middle of the pack versus QB’s last season but with the Eagles cast of weapons and standout offensive line, it will be hard to keep them at bay…especially if the offense can’t stay on the field. Even with his overall upside in question, Wentz is the best QB value on the slate.

DraftKings salary: 5,700

RB Nick Chubb vs. Tennessee

As the lead back in a high octane offense, Chubb is on the shortlist of guys that could lead the NFL in rushing TD’s. The trade of Duke Johnson figures to at least moderately spike his pass game involvement. Similar to Washington, the Titans could struggle to move the ball in this one. Chubb should land multiple scoring opportunities in this one.

DraftKings salary: 6,400

RB Dalvin Cook vs. Atlanta

The Vikings have made it no secret how they want to operate this season. Cook will lead a zone running game implemented by zone maestro Gary Kubiak. The Falcons gave up the 8 most rushing yards in the NFL last season and schematically ignore RB’s in the pass game. Cook has a chance to break into 1st round territory in next season’s fantasy drafts. That starts with a strong week 1 opportunity.

DraftKings salary: 6,000

WR Chris Godwin vs. San Francisco

Fantasy’s top breakout candidate starts off in a sweet spot. The Niners gave up the 4th most points per game in the NFL to wide receivers. Godwin will be matched up in the slot with 5’9’’ K’waun Williams, a player recovering from a knee injury. New Bucs coached has overseen multiple 100 catch seasons from slot receivers. Godwin has the talent to follow that trend. Play him will you can at this sub 7K price.

DraftKings salary: 6,200

WR Cooper Kupp @ Carolina

In the 5 competitive games the Rams played with Kupp in the lineup last season he averaged 5 catches 76 yards and .8 touchdowns per game on 7 targets per game, including 1 red zone target per. What’s even more impressive about those numbers is the fact that he left 2 of them due to injury.

With the Panthers at home, a 24.5 point implied team total and the best supporting cast of weapons Cam Newton has ever had, I think it’s safe to bet on Carolina keeping this one competitive, making Kupp a strong week 1 play.

DraftKings salary: 5,700

WR Tyler Lockett vs. Cincinnati

Tyler Lockett is set to be freed this season as the primary pass game weapon in Seattle. He was ridiculously efficient last season and will now slot into the high volume role vacated by the retirement of Doug Baldwin. Equally able to take the top off of a defense or win with separation underneath. Now he takes on a flammable unit who struggled to find someone willing to take the role as defensive coordinator. Play Lockett with confidence this week.

DraftKings salary: 6,000

TE Evan Engram @ Dallas

Engram’s involvement has only fallen short of Kelce in games without Odell Beckham in his career. Somehow the Giants handed out almost 80 million to wide receivers in the offseason and still find themselves in dire straits at the position. As long as risk adverse Eli Manning is at the controls, Engram will have a “massive role”. The Cowboys were average at best versus tight ends last season and the negative game script the Giants are likely to face sets up well for a double digit target game for Engram.

DraftKings salary: 4,800

Flex Chris Carson vs Cincinnati

Are you noticing a theme? Home favorite running back. Carson is one of the top plays of this entire slate facing a depleted Cincy offense and a defense that gave up the 2nd most fantasy points per game to running backs last season. Talk of increased involvement in the passing game only improves his rock solid floor.

DraftKings salary: 5,700

Defense Browns vs Tennessee

Pairing Chubb up with a Browns defense whose defensive line looks primed to make life difficult on QB’s. That should prove even more daunting for Tennessee with tackle Taylor Lewan out. Cleveland will look to start fast, smother the Titans run centric approach and force Marcus Mariota to beat them from the pocket. Something he hasn’t quite ever figured out how to do as a pro.

DraftKings salary: 3,400
