The Ravens staged a valiant effort against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, but fell 31-30. RSR staff react to the loss here.

Just an outstanding effort by Tyler Huntley, Mark Andrews, and every guy the Ravens pulled off the street to suit up against the NFC’s top seed. Another potential miracle win slips just through their fingers, unfortunately.

As I did in Pittsburgh, I agreed with the path of going for two. Was that rag-tag secondary really going to stop Aaron Rodgers in overtime? Unlike in Pittsburgh, I despised the play call. The Ravens ran that roll-out last week in Cleveland on a two-point attempt and it was just as ugly.

I have no idea how that game was that close. John Harbaugh has his flaws, but his ability to coach undermanned teams up is second-to-none. Not counting players lost in training camp, they were missing: QB1 WR2 LT1 RT1 LG1 DE1 DE2 CB1 CB4 CB5 SS1 FS1…and CB3 and RT2 went down during the course of the game.

With Cincinnati and Pittsburgh winning, the AFC North bunches up even further.

Bengals/Ravens 8-6

Browns 7-6

Steelers 7-6-1

Three straight stomach-churners for the good guys, and three straight losses. At this stage of the season, in a fight for a playoff spot, there are no moral victories.

This one felt pretty close to that, however.

The Ravens continue to show spunk and a very deep roster, but are just minus a bunch of those guys who are paid to be game-changers. Mark Andrews has elevated himself to rare air in the NFL elite, and was outstanding again today. Tyler Huntley was a great find for this franchise. They just don’t have enough of those guys right now.

There will be arguments about some of the coaching decisions. I get it. But they had this team prepared for an uphill battle today. That has to count, too.

This team can beat the Bengals and Steelers. Not one doubt about it. Now they’re in a position where they will have to.

For the second time in three weeks, John Harbaugh was faced with a to two-point or not to two-point conundrum, and again he rolled the dice. Like the first one two weeks ago, it was the right decision. Unlike it, though, the play call was not the right one. Rolling out shrinks the field drastically, and Andrews running straight to the pylon forces Huntley to make a perfect throw to the guy the entire defense knew it was going to.

It’s been a common theme all season. The Ravens were in a game they shouldn’t have been. They almost pulled it out.

Nobody on this team has made himself more money this year than Tyler Huntley. He’s about to get paid by someone.

Great game, until it wasn’t.

Kevin McNelis

God, that one hurt. The only way the Ravens could have set expectations for this game was to have an effort like that one and fall short. This season is uniquely painful.

Huntley was as good as you could ask him to be. Mark Andrews was incredible. It just wasn’t enough.

I don’t want to talk about the choice at the end of the game right now. I just don’t have it in me.

The Ravens have now lost three games in a row by a total of four points. Today could have been the most improbable win in franchise history, at least going into the game. They really stepped up and almost pulled this one out against a very good team and arguably the best QB ever.

Huntley continues to look impressive and the defense stepped up and played well. Davante Adams was a relative non factor today. The horrendous PI call that give them a first down instead of kicking the FG was arguably the deciding factor in the game.

I come out of this game similar to last week..encouraged. We will see about the injured and covid list players but if they can get back Lamar, Mekari, Campbell, Westry, Smith, Ricard, Clark, et al for Cinci, I think they have a chance to run the table.

By the way, going for two was the right decision but it was a horrid play call. To cut off 2/3 of the field and scheme to guy to the one guy they are going to concentrate on is utter stupidity. Murray was actually breaking tackles and they weren’t stopping him.  Spreading the field and giving it to him or using play action and giving Snoop multiple options would have been the better way to go. Greg Roman can’t be gone soon enough.

Chad Racine

A lot of credit goes to Harbaugh for getting the team to keep fighting the way they are. The Ravens had no business being in that game and they nearly pulled out the victory.

Huntley is playing better than what most people probably expected. I believe he needs to be the starter until Lamar is near 100%.  I’m not suggesting there is a QB controversy, only that Lamar shouldn’t be starting with an ankle injury hindering his play.

If the Ravens were able to hang with one of the best teams in the league there is no reason to count them out yet.
