The Baltimore Ravens and CB Walt Harris have agreed in principle to a one-year contract, executive vice president/general manager Ozzie Newsome announced Thursday.
Harris, a 13-year NFL veteran and former Pro Bowler (2006), has played for four different teams during his career, last with the San Francisco 49ers from 2006-08. The 5-11, 196-pounder has seen action in 193 games (173 starts), producing 35 interceptions for 332 returns yards and four touchdowns.
A first-round pick (13th overall) by Chicago in 1996, he spent six seasons with the Bears before moving on to Indianapolis (2002-03), Washington (2004-05) and then San Francisco.
In his last playing season with the 49ers, he started all 16 games, totaling three interceptions, a team-high 12 passes defensed and 83 total tackles (69 solo). En route to earning Pro Bowl honors in 2006, he recorded career highs in interceptions (eight) and interception return yards (84), adding one touchdown return.
Harris, 35, sat out the 2009 NFL campaign while recovering from a knee injury suffered during the 49ers’ offseason workouts.
