Ravens Projected 53-Man Roster 2.0

Share
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Dev Panchwagh and I are once again read to don our GM caps and try to predict the Ravens’ final roster.

See our initial prediction here.

OFFENSE

Quarterbacks (2)

In: Joe Flacco, Ryan Mallett

NOTES: The Ravens have seemingly made their minds up already regarding their backup quarterback situation. With Flacco on the mend, it’s Mallett’s job once again unless he stumbles. Josh Johnson has strung together solid practices and two good preseason games, but it’s doubtful it will be enough, even if John Harbaugh says there is now a backup competition.

Running Backs (4)

In: Justin Forsett, Buck Allen, Terrance West, Kenneth Dixon

Out: Lorenzo Taliaferro

Notes: Taliaferro remains on the physically unable to perform list and has yet to take a snap this summer. With the emergence of the other backs, Taliaferro will likely be the odd man out.

Fullback (1)

In: Kyle Juszczyk

Notes: The Ravens made it a point this offseason to get back to running the football. That decision alone secures Juice’s future for 2016. On top of that, he’s been used in numerous roles this summer and throughout the two preseason games.

Wide Receiver (6)

In: Steve Smith Sr., Mike Wallace,  Michael Campanaro, Kamar Aiken, Breshad Perriman, Chris Moore

Bubble: Jeremy Butler

Out: Chris Matthews, Kaelin Clay, Dobson Collins, Chuck Jacobs, Keenan Reynolds

NOTES: This is the hardest decision to make given the talent and the lack of health presented by the wide receiver corps. With Senior and Perriman both returning from the physically unable to perform list, Butler will have to play mistake-free football for the remainder of the summer. He is doing just that thus far.

Offensive Line (8)

In: Jeremy Zuttah, Marshal Yanda, Rick Wagner, Ryan Jensen, John Urschel, Ronnie Stanley, Alex Lewis, Vlad Ducasse

Bubble: De’Ondre Wesley

Out: Jarell Broxton, Blaine Clausell, Anthony Fabiano, Stephane Nembot, Matt Skura, James Hurst

NOTES: The battle for the last spot along the offensive line gets tighter by the day. It appears as if Ducasse has the upper hand over Wesley based on reps throughout camp and in both preseason games. While it’s not a foregone conclusion that Wesley doesn’t make it, he needs to up his game over the next two weeks.

Tight End (4)

In: Benjamin Watson, Dennis Pitta, Crockett Gillmore , Maxx Williams (IR)

Bubble: Darren Waller, Nick Boyle

Out: Daniel Brown

NOTES: It’s a numbers game at one of the deepest positions the Ravens have. His suspension aside, Waller finds himself on the bubble as he makes the transition from wide receiver to tight end. If Williams ends up being placed on injured reserve, it may pave the way for Waller to secure a spot following his return from his four-game suspension.

DEFENSE

Defensive Line (7)

In: Brandon Williams, Timmy Jernigan, Carl Davis, Lawrence Guy, Brent Urban, Kapron Lewis-Moore, Michael Pierce

Out: Trevon Coley, Willie Henry

NOTES: Not much change among this group since our last roster prediction, though we’ve swapped Michael Pierce & Willie Henry. Henry was rarely heard from in camp he turned in a solid outing in his first preseason game and almost single-handily blew their second. There isn’t much wiggle room for this unit, which will feature plenty of rotation throughout the season.

Linebackers (8)

In: Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, C.J. Mosley, Kamalei Correa, Za’Darius Smith, Zach Orr, Albert McClellan, Matt Judon

Bubble: Chris Carter

Out: Arthur Brown, Victor Ochi, Mario Ojemudia, Kavell Conner, Brennen Beyer, Patrick Onwuasor

NOTES: Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil returned from the PUP list and are expected to be ready for the season opener in September. Barring any setbacks, there remains no change to this group in our second roster prediction. OLB Chris Carter remains on the bubble.

Cornerbacks (6)

In: Jimmy Smith, Shareece Wright, Tavon Young, Jerraud Powers, Will Davis, Maurice Canady

Out: Kyle Arrington, Julian Wilson, Sheldon Price

NOTES: It seems the Ravens are content with this group of corners going into week one against Buffalo. While Powers has struggled throughout the first two preseason games, he will remain a key cog in the secondary. Will Davis fared well vs. the Colts and it appears as if Maurice Canady (hamstring) is banged up once again.

Safeties (5)

In : Eric Weddle, Lardarius Webb, Kendrick Lewis, Anthony Levine, Terrence Brooks

Out: Matt Elam

NOTES: Matt Elam finds himself as the odd man out in the safety corps this upcoming season, particularly with John Harbaugh saying the fourth-year safety will miss significant time after suffering a knee injury against Indianapolis on Saturday. After failing to live up to his first-round status, it’s unlikely the Ravens will use the IR-designated to return tag on the former Florida standout.

SPECIALISTS (3)

In: Sam Koch, Justin Tucker, Morgan Cox

NOTES: The Wolfpack returns….
