OWINGS MILLS — In what probably amounts to legitimate concern about the respective knee injuries of outside linebacker Dan Cody and fullback Justin Green, the Baltimore Ravens are actively perusing the free agent market.
On Saturday, the Ravens tried out former Pro Bowl alternate fullback Alan Ricard, whom they cut earlier this summer due to injuries along with since-fired offensive coordinator Jim Fassel phasing out blocking fullbacks and utilizing more H-back formations. Ricard was Jamal Lewis’ lead blocker in 2003 when he rushed for 2,066 yards and was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
The Ravens also tried out former Cincinnati Bengals fullback Nicholas Luckey and former Atlanta Falcons and University of Michigan fullback Kevin Dudley.
The personnel department also worked out linebacker Tim Johnson, a former Oakland Raiders special teams ace and situational defender who was cut following training camp this summer.
The Ravens didn’t immediately sign anyone and haven’t made an official determination on Cody, who said he tore his left posterior cruciate ligament against the Falcons, and Green, who sprained his left knee against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday. Ravens coach Brian Billick said earlier this week that the team was waiting for swelling to go down on Cody’s knee before making a decision on his medical status.
Green was on crutches following the Cincinnati game and said he didn’t know when he would be able to return. He was scheduled to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging exam on Friday.
