NFL UPDATE: GAITHER WORKS OUT FOR SCOUTS

University of Maryland offensive tackle Jared Gaither, a supplemental draft prospect, worked out Monday for over a dozen NFL scouts.

The 6-foot-8, 320-pound lineman ran the 40-yard dash between 5.0 and 5.12 seconds. He registered a 31-inch vertical leap and a 9-foot-3 standing broad jump.

Although Gaither performed well during positional drills, his conditioning was not up to par and he reportedly got visibly tired during the workout. He posted just 16 repetitions of 225 pounds, much lower than the norm for an offensive lineman of his massive proportions.

Gaither was declared academically ineligible to play this fall.

The supplemental draft commences Thursday.

Traditionally, the Baltimore Ravens don’t use the supplemental draft to acquire prospects. Drafting a player in the supplemental draft means forfeiting a pick in that round during the regular draft held the following spring.

Other highly regarded prospects available in the draft: University of Georgia cornerback Paul Oliver and Nebraska offensive tackle Chris Patrick.
