With Tomlinson out due to a hyperextended knee, McGahee, a second alternate for the AFC squad, will make an all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii for the NFL’s annual all-star game.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be going to the Pro Bowl, especially when your peers have a say in the matter," McGahee said in a statement. "It is a goal that I have had for a long time, and I am going to enjoy every second of this. They always told me the first Pro Bowl is always the most special. I can’t wait to share this with my teammates."
During his first season with Baltimore, McGahee finished fourth in the AFC in rushing with 1,207 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 43 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown, missing the season finale with broken ribs.
Meanwhile, Ravens offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden, who reiterated again this week that he’s leaning toward retirement, has withdrawn from the Pro Bowl and will be replaced by Chargers lineman Marcus McNeill. A painful turf toe injury that affected Ogden all season remains problematic.
Newly-hired offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said he hasn’t spoken to Ogden yet about his plans.
"I’ve reached out to him, and I’m sure we’ll touch base in the next few days, but we haven’t talked yet," Cameron said. "But you can imagine my respect, and anyone who has been in the NFL or the last 10 or 11 years, has for him."
Middle linebacker Ray Lewis and free safety Ed Reed are the Ravens’ other two Pro Bowl selections.
Cameron met with veteran quarterback Steve McNair on Wednesday at the Ravens’ headquarters, which follows a recent meeting with backup quarterback Kyle Boller.
McNair is recovering from surgery to repair his non-throwing shoulder’s labrum. He’s coming off a career-worst season with two touchdown passes, four interceptions and seven lost fumbles while contending with groin, back and shoulder injuries.
"Obviously, I have a tremendous amount of respect for him," Cameron said regarding McNair. "It was a positive, positive visit. I was with Kyle for a few hours in California the other day. I was impressed with both guys."
