Mitchell, 29, worked out Thursday at the Ravens’ training complex and didn’t drop a pass, according to his agent.
"Freddie had an excellent workout," said Michael Harrison, who represents Mitchell. "We’re starting to set up some different workouts for him now that the draft is over with three or four teams.
"He would like to sign if Baltimore wants to sign him. We think Baltimore’s a really good fit for him in Cam Cameron’s offensive scheme."
Mitchell hasn’t played in the NFL since 2005 when he was briefly with the Kansas City Chiefs, but was cut prior to the season-opener.
The 6-foot, 195-pound Lakeland, Fla., native has caught 90 career passes for 1,263 yards and five touchdowns in four NFL seasons. His top season was in 2003 when he caught 35 passes for 498 yards and two touchdowns.
Selected prior to NFL star wideouts Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson and Steve Smith in the 2001 draft, Mitchell created headlines and controversy in Philadelphia following the arrival of Terrell Owens as he began openly complaining about his diminished role in the offense.
Then, Mitchell drew the ire of the New England Patriots when he claimed to be unfamiliar with their secondary prior to a Super Bowl XXXIX defeat with Patriots safety Rodney Harrison responding by calling him a first-round bust.
"All he does is talk,†Patriots coach Bill Belichick said of Mitchell. “He’s terrible, and you can print that. I was happy when he was in the game.â€
Following the Super Bowl, Mitchell criticized quarterback Donovan McNabb, Owens and Belichick. He was cut by the Eagles prior to training camp in 2005 and signed with Kansas City.
If the Ravens decide to sign Mitchell, it’s expected it would be a veteran minimum contract.
"It’s too early to tell what will happen," Harrison said. "It’s just an opportunity to get in front of the Ravens’ coaches and scouts and show them what he can do. Freddie’s definitely going to add value to somebody. He can still play."
