With six starters out on defense and four sidelined on offense, the Ravens were forced to make several alterations to their lineup during their opening preseason game at M&T Bank Stadium.
The Ravens started Fabian Washington and Frank Walker at cornerback.
Antwan Barnes got the start at outside linebacker with veteran Jim Leonhard filling in at free safety.
On the defensive line, Dwan Edwards and Justin Bannan were elevated to the first-string.
Offensively, the Ravens went with Chad Slaughter and Mike Kracalik at left tackle and right tackle, respectively, and Adam Bergen at tight end.
Rookie Ray Rice started at running back and rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on seven carries in the first half.
INJURY UPDATE: The Ravens held out running back Willis McGahee (arthroscopic left knee surgery), wide receivers Demetrius Williams (left Achilles’ tendon) and Patrick Carter (dislocated left shoulder), safety Ed Reed (shoulder), cornerbacks Chris McAlister (right knee), Samari Rolle (left leg) and David Pittman (foot), linebackers Dan Cody (right foot), Terrell Suggs (contract dispute), Tavares Gooden (hip) and Robert McCune (knee), offensive tackles Jared Gaither (sprained right ankle) and Adam Terry (sprained left ankle), tight ends Todd Heap (right calf), Aaron Walker (left knee) and Daniel Wilcox (offseason toe surgery), defensive tackles Haloti Ngata (sprained right medial collateral ligament) and Kelly Talavou (dislocated shoulder) and nose guard Kelly Gregg (arthroscopic left knee surgery).
Meanwhile, Vikings quarterback Tavaris Jackson hurt his right knee in the first quarter and was removed from the game.
While scrambling around the right side, linebacker Antwan Barnes corralled him and hit him on the leg. Then, Barnes stumbled forward before being taken down by safety Dawan Landry and middle linebacker Ray Lewis.
Jackson completed 7 of 11 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown before being replaced by Gus Frerotte.
The Vikings were without the services of former University of Maryland free safety Madieu Williams, who is out for at least six weeks with a neck injury.
The Vikings also deactivated tight end Garrett Mills, defensive tackle Kenderick Allen, offensive tackles Drew Radovich and Marcus Johnson and defensive end Brian Robison.
