OWINGS MILLS — The Baltimore Ravens have scheduled Eastern Michigan offensive tackle T.J. Lang for a visit to their training complex, according to his representatives.
A versatile blocker who may project to offensive guard in the NFL at 6-foot-4, 307 pounds, Lang has been rising on draft boards.
Lang has also scheduled visits with the Chicago Bears, San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons.
Lang parlayed a strong performance at the Texas v. The Nation all-star game into growing interest from scouts. He played left tackle in college.
Lang is a three-year starter and a converted defensive tackle who has 5.15 speed in the 40-yard dash. He has drawn high marks for his footwork, strength and aggressiveness, finishing off blocks.
Meanwhile, the Ravens hosted St. Paul’s (Va.) cornerback Greg Toler for a visit Thursday as well as University of Tennessee defensive end Robert Ayers.
Toler, a Division II standout who has 4.35 speed, had a private workout for the Ravens on Monday.
“The Ravens told me they hoped they could keep me a secret,” Toler told the 24×7 in a telephone interview Thursday night. “I had a good visit with Ozzie Newsome, John Harbaugh and Chuck Pagano. I would love to play for the Ravens, but we’ll see what happens. I am visiting a little over half the NFL teams, so I don’t know where I’ll wind up, but I really like the Ravens.”
Also, the Bears signed free agent offensive tackle Orlando Pace on Thursday.
Pace visited the Ravens and ultimately passed on their offer to sign a three-year contract reportedly worth $15 million with a team where he could play his natural left tackle position.
The Ravens are likely to stick with veteran offensive tackle Willie Anderson on the right side.
NOTES: Strong safety Dawan Landry, who missed 14 games last season with a spinal cord concussion/neck injury, signed his $1.01 million restricted, one-year low tender.
Landry got hurt last season when he collided with Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis and had to be carted off the field.
He has been cleared to participate in offseason minicamps after tingling sensations in his neck subsided after several months of rehabilitation. In three NFL seasons, the former fifth-round draft pick from Georgia Tech has recorded 162 tackles, five interceptions and four sacks. …
The Ravens announced that they have promoted personnel assistant Roy Anderson, 29, to defensive assistant and hired Matt Weiss, 26, as head coaching assistant.
Anderson divided his time last season between the personnel department and the coaching staff where he assisted defensive line coach Clarence Brooks and was assigned to scouting reports and computer research. Now, Anderson will work full-time with the coaching staff.
"Roy was a big part of what we did last year," Harbaugh said in a statement. "He helped us prepare our coaches and players. He’s a bright young coach with a tremendous future."
Weiss worked at Stanford as a quality control coach and a graduate assistant for coach Jim Harbaugh, John Harbaugh’s brother and a former Ravens quarterback. He’ll work closely with Harbaugh with administrative responsibilities and as a defensive quality control coach.
"Matt has a great football background and has built a tremendous foundation as a coach," Harbaugh said. "He’ll be very valuable to our staff and players as we go forward."
