OWINGS MILLS – The Baltimore Ravens auditioned three veteran free agent defensive backs Wednesday at their training complex, trying out cornerbacks Ken Lucas and Walt Harris as well as safety Ken Hamlin.
Although there was no immediate signing, the workout is scheduled to extend through today’s final offseason practice.
The Ravens could use some depth at safety with Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed still recovering from hip surgery.
Plus, the Ravens are awaiting the return of cornerbacks Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb from surgeries to repair torn anterior cruciate ligaments.
Both players are regarded as ahead of schedule in their respective rehabilitations, but haven’t resumed practicing.
The Ravens recently signed two defensive backs after successful tryouts: veteran cornerback Travis Fisher and undrafted rookie safety Brad Jones.
Hamlin, 29, started all but two games last season for the Dallas Cowboys. He registered 52 tackles with no interceptions.
Due a $5.59 million base salary this season, according to NFL Players Association figures, Hamlin was released in April.
Hamlin, who has previously played for the Seattle Seahawks, has recorded 476 career tackles, 14 interceptions and five forced fumbles. He’s regarded as a hard hitter at 6-foot-2, 209 pounds.
Harris, 35, is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament that sidelined him for the entire season last year with the San Francisco 49ers. Harris had been rehabilitating his knee in Florida at the same place where Reed works out.
He has previous stints with the Washington Redskins, Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears, intercepting 35 career passes.
Lucas, 31, started six games last season for the Seahawks. The former Ole Miss standout posted 34 tackles and one interception.
He has a prior stint with the Carolina Panthers and has intercepted 25 passes in nine NFL seasons.
