The Panthers are the last team the Ravens have not beaten in a meaningful game. Should the Ravens win on Sunday it will mark 15 seasons, the second longest streak of its kind in Baltimore’s NFL history. It took the Baltimore Colts 16 seasons before they defeated the…yes you guessed it…Pittsburgh Steelers.
Of course the schedule makers have something to do with this since the Ravens and Panthers are inter-conference opponents and don’t see each other on a regular basis. Sunday marks just the fourth meeting between the clubs.
The first time the clubs met was on December 15, 1996, a 27-16 win for the Panthers that helped propel them into the post season. Then on September 8, 2002 the Chris Redman led Ravens fell to Carolina 10-7. And during the only contest between the teams held in Baltimore, the Ravens dropped a heartbreaker on October 15, 2006, 23-21 when as Steve Smith burned the secondary for 189 yards and a touchdown.
Once more the Ravens along with thousands of their fans will venture on a journey down Tobacco Road to take on the NFL’s worst offensive team in the Carolina Panthers. Former Raven Brian St. Pierre will make his first start for the Panthers and try to improve an offense that has scored only nine touchdowns all year. The Panthers average just 11.6 points per game and carry a Red Zone percentage of 26.3%.
