OWINGS MILLS — Baltimore Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski tested negative for all illegal drugs during a drug test conducted Tuesday, according to his attorney and boxing manager.
Zbikowski was suspended for 45 days by the Oklahoma boxing commissioner after allegedly testing positive for marijuana at a boxing match conducted at an Indian casino Saturday.
"Yeah, we got a good result and he passed the second test," Mike Joyce, Zbikowski’s lawyer and manager, told Ravens24x7.com. "We’re passing along the results to the boxing commission so they can lift the suspension.Tom is still pretty shook up. Tom was quite shocked. He has taken hundreds of drug tests in the NCAA and the NFL and had never tested positive for any illegal substance.
"Tom has high moral character. Tom’s body is a temple. He was very hurt that this stain goes on his reputation with these allegations going out there unchecked until he was able to have his test cleared."
The Zbikowski camp questioned the validity of the testing procedures in the wake of the NFL player and four other boxers testing positive during the boxing card. Joyce said that the fighters had to urinate into a cup and then a testing strip was placed in the cup, comparing the procedure to taking an extremely inexpensive home pregnancy test.
"I’ve known Tom since he was nine years old," Joyce said. "He has done so much to give back to the community to those less fortunate than himself. The guys I know that smoke pot are all big fat guys that have the munchies. Tom doesn’t even eat pizza."
The Ravens have been informed about the report.
“We’re aware of the story about Tom and the test," team spokesman Kevin Byrne said in an email. "As of now, unfortunately, we are unable to reach out to him for his side of the situation.”
Zbikowski is 4-0 with three knockouts, including a first-round technical knockout on Saturday in Thackersville, Okla., at WinStar Casino.
The former Notre Dame star has upcoming boxing matches in California, including a June 4 bout at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
